Stuck in gear

When I was driving in to work this morning, I couldn't get the car to change gears. In manual-select mode, the gear indicator said I was in 2nd. In full automatic mode, the gear indicator said I was in 3rd. I was in stop and go traffic, so I couldn't get up to a high enough speed to determine whether I was in fact in 2nd or 3rd gear in each mode, but I was definitely not in 1st - and I could not make the car go into first gear.

I tried using both the paddle shifters and the shift lever, and neither worked. Putting the car in neutral or park did not fix the problem. Restarting the car DID fix the problem, however.

Anyone ever experience this problem before? Any ideas what may have caused the transmission to override my inputs?

the ecu is just being stupid, please reset it, if you do reset it and it still persists, then there is something wrong with your tranny(just like the other guy) and you have to go to dealer and tell them that your manumatic mode don't work, that normally gets u a new tranny
