Turbocharging auto RX8
#53
Damm. You had told me the 17th so I made plans for that weekend and will not be back until early am on the 17th. The 8 will be in the garage and I will PM you the key code if you do not mind and your pressed for time. I sure do not want to miss this session.

I can tell you now that he will stress the turbo. A lot of numbers and statistics are on his side. I've never driven a t/c a/t car that was set up for performance from a low end but have driven s/c cars (and boats) that are. Jeff tells me that a turbo will perform very well in the low end of our a/t 8s. That's one reason I want the feel of 09Factors t/c a/t 8.

I am going to be installing a supercharger on Niki's Miata if it makes you feel better.
She likes the way it sounds and the Miata doesn't have nearly the rev range that the Renesis does (or the exhaust pressure), making it an acceptable candidate for a positive displacement blower at low power levels. Were only looking for 50 HP or so.
Its not that I'm against S/C - its just that I don't think it is the proper choice overall for the Renesis. Not a bad choice, just not optimum given the data and possibilities.

I also think there are 2 points when it comes to FI with the RX-8. 1 point being this 300whp or so range prior to needing more upgrades like fuel pump, etc... A superchargers can get you to that 300whp point where a number of people would not mind staying at.
Then there is, the 2nd point, the all out power crowd, that are trying to push to 400whp and above. Note- A problem though is "when" this power is coming into play and at what rpm range. Because if its coming way late than its not doing much for your 0-60 or 1/4 mile. You also get into the debate on how useful such "late arriving" power would be on a track and twisties.

I usually put a big swath of blue painter's tape across the most wind-presented paint in the front of the car. That catches the rocks and bugs pretty good.
I will have a wide array of cleaning materials with me in Irvine and there is a self-serve car wash only a few miles from the hotel.

I used NXT with a good coat of carnuba stuff to keep the bugs from sticking last year. I think I will go for some tape this year too, as the wax doesn't stop the rocks (or flames for that matter). I am going to need to do touch ups soon.
The winner last year for hitting stuff and still getting there was a 3rd gen that hit a deer in Oregon. Gonna be hard to beat that.

Just Turbo charged my 8 with greddy kit. Had it dyno tuned at 218 HP on wheel. Did a test run on highway. When puch hard at high speed at 5000 RPM it slipped and jump fast to 7000RPM. I think 4AT is just not enough for Trubo. HUmm... will atleast we got another project going (SE3P with FD engine). Also got a FD with TD06 25G.
Car was running lean before tunning. Had upgraded the injectors. Try to upgrade the fuel pump, but did not have the correct tool to remove those plastic rings. Anyone can help on that?
