Why does AT have steel drive shafts?

Is there a technical reason why AT has the steel drive shaft (vs MT's carbon) or is it just subtle cost cutting because not many people pay attention to these things? Thanks!

i would have to guess yes on cost cutting for the simple fact the the AT doesnt rev as high(ie. less power) so maybe there isnt a reason for the carbon, ....BUT IM JUST ***-U-ME-ing and u know where that gets you lol
