$500 burnng hole in pocket
I just graduated from High School, and have gained quite a bit of much-needed money for my RX-8. I am very new to modding cars in any way, and would appreciate a bit of advice on how to wisely spend this money. Something that fits my budget and helps with HP would be nice. Thanks everyone!

I just purchased Richard Paul's Short Shift Kit for about $265 (with shipping). Installed it yesterday and makes a big difference in how the shifter feels (assuming you have a manual transmission).

There are a couple of long threads on this forum about it, you might want to do a search and check them out.
From what I've been reading here it doesn't sound like there are many performance mods that yield significant HP gains for the money you're talking about.
Racing Beat:

Has some products, like air intake, exhaust, etc. They claim 5.8 HP increase at 8900 RPM for their intake ($320). 3.5 HP increase with their exhaust ($600).
Doesn't really seem worth it to me for the money, but I'm not sure I want to spend $3K + install for a turbo kit either![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Hope this helps a bit. Have fun with whatever you decide to purchase.

Yeah, I have manual, an a Turbo would be nice, but Im still a bit strapped for cash :P maybe with my summer job (I own the company, hopefully theres contracting work needs be done) I can get some. But a air intake and some new springs would be a nice start. Should I worry about the clutch plate, flywheel and that stuff, or get better brakes too? HP isnt the only thing I want to soup up.

I agree for the money (a little more than $500), the Racing Beat suspension package is the best thing to get first. I makes the handling of a very good car that much better. Steering is almost telepathic after you put this on.

But Intake and Springs are a good choice also.
All comes together for you to decide.
