~~~Motor Mounts and Clutch - New Owner~~~
I recently purchased a 04 Nordic Green GT RX-8 67k miles, still being under warranty I am dealer bound. Motor Mounts are in need of replacing and Clutch is going bad; none are covered under the warranty for obvious reasons. Searching the forums here and finding lots of different suggestions and pics. Thinking about going with the set from:
http://www.mazsport.net/store/index....uct_detail&p=9
but whats with the "*Modified Height difference is 3/4 of an inch."? Is this something that I want? Also is that everything I need to give to the mechanic?
2nd the Clutch. Should I go with an aftermarket performance clutch and maybe replace the flywheel while i'm at it? Breezing over this post:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=motor+mounts
Any input will be greatly helpful!
The Modified Height is for turbo owners to make more room for the turbo.
I can't think of many performance clutches for the 8 cause I have yet to need to replace mine. But there is a Mazdaspeed flywheel that a lot of people seem to have.
I think there are bushings that go with the engine mounts that should be replaced too?
I know you can't listen to everything the mechanics tell you ie "the air filter needs to be replaced-yeah did that-replace it again". When I shift the clutch is not loose and not tight, not sure if that's the way the RX is suppose to be or not. Should I take his advice or wait it out. Thanks again for the advice.
Well with 67k the clutch should be fine still unless it has been abused or misused.
Is it hard to change gears? Does the clutch not engage till the pedal is almost all the way out?
I always go to the floor with the clutch when shifting. 5th and 6th gear aren't as smooth as the rest and if I don't go to the floor there is no problem.
Being under warranty its strange that mount and clutch faults are not covered by mazda. I've had my mount replaced at mazda's expense. Might be a Mazda North America thing.
As mentioned 67k should still mean lots of life left in the clutch. Stock clutchs are made by exedy, so pretty hard wearing. if you really wanted to move onto an after market clutch Exedy have quite a few out, with prices to suit the thickness of your wallet.
Regarding your problems shifting from 5th to 6th. Mine has similar. But the clutch is fine. Could be a gear box problem, synchros maybe?
