~80k miles, new coils, new plugs, compression testing...
79,955 miles on my car currently as it sits in my garage.
I just got back from Rotary Performance after having the compression checked, new plugs put in and BHR coils installed.
I'm quite pleased with the results that came back from my compression check.
Front: 8.7 8.6 8.8 (278rpm)
Rear: 8.8 8.1 9.0 (272rpm)
The compression check was done before the coils and plugs were put in as I wanted to make sure the compression was fine before putting new coils in the car as I didn't want them being blamed for low compression.
The plugs were really bad when they were pulled. They had been in need of replacement now for about 10k miles. I'll chalk this up to laziness on my part.
The coils, however, were much worse. Chris showed me the leading coil off the car and it had a giant white spot on the bottom, which they refer to as, "the white spot of death." He said all of the coils had a white spot like that, but the leading coil was the worst.
Interestingly enough, even with crappy plugs, and coils, the car had driven fine and was getting 19.5-21mpg. The only issue I had noticed was what smelled like a failing catalytic converter, which is entirely possible at this age. I'd get the nasty stink when I'd romp on the throttle usually getting on the highway. Now though.. nothing.. no smell.
The car feels great. At 80k miles, I can't say I'm not pleased and considering they only charged me for the compression test + 1/2 an hour labor, even better. BHR coils seem to be operating perfectly fine. No codes, no nonsense.
Brakes are up next, and that'll probably be next week.. After that, the CAT, then maybe an access port and maybe a catback. It just depends on how much cash I feel like dropping in the car right now.
