Engine is stronger than it looks, even higher compression than last time, so I guess its ok. Idle and stuff all back to normal. no new engine needed (YaY)

but they did recommend me to rev my car a bit before shutting it down. will do that from now on.
J. that's great news! Regarding the revving before shut-off- do you shut it off while the engine revs are still falling down (so a shut-off at about 4-7K)? Or would waiting until its back to idle better?

The dealer told me to do this as well. Rev the car up around 5k rpm and shut off. This will clean it out when you shut the car off.

I hold at 3k for 10 seconds and then shut off. As per racing beats suggestion.

And glad to hear it wasn't anything serious nyc.

Uhh ahh , NOT SO FAST

Forgot to mention this,

Yesterday Morning, Car died again, just like what was going on before.

This time even more, Engine was "choking" like a **** around 4000-5000 rpm, after maybe 20 seconds or so finally a misfire code threw (flashing CEL), CEL didnt stay on cuz its first time, I backed off, then push it again, everything seems to work fine after. weird car, weird engine.

Aye .... going to dealership right now.

car back home.

the "sometimes no start problem - they found a row of "misalign" pins in the PCM, they took it out and fixed it.

Car is so far so good

Highly recommend Wayne Mazda & their Rotary specialist Kevin

That 3 would be :

"Search Ken-rx8 u n00b!"
"Ken-Rx8, u n00b, Search!"
"Search n00b, AKA Ken-RX8!"

Well that's good new nycgps. But I think you need another engine. I mean I've had four. I feel like I'm taking them all and not sharing.

Well, my engine could be fine for now, but I have a feeling its going to fail before my powertrain warranty expires.

From time to time it dips around 500 rpm, especially when hot like in the summer. MPG has gone down significantly, from about 2 yrs ago I can get 200 miles b4 the light comes on, to now I barely be able to make it pass 160.

Maybe one day I might get pissed and decide to just swap it out with a rebuild from either RR or Mazmart with all the goodies in there like Dr. X's seals and all the crap. who knows

If the compression is good and you're not burning or leaking excess oil, why would you expect the engine to fail?

For symptoms like low idle rpm and poor mileage I'd suspect the fuel and induction systems. Your big problem was caused by a bad MAF senson, then misaligned pins on the PCU. Plus a bad wire to the MAF sensor.

What exactly was the deal with misaligned pins? Between that and the MAF sensor wire, has someone clumsy been messing around under the hood? Maybe the dealer you used to go to?

Ken
compression is within spec but its very close to the fail status.

Fuel system is ok, they tested it already (of course, I replaced the fuel pump not long ago) induction system works, Im pretty sure I install everything correctly
The MAF sensor I dont know, it gone bad itself. didnt even touch it much. Same thing for the wire.

Naw, the older dealer never even had a chance to open the ECU cover up. This is the report

CUST STATES CAR WILL NOT START
VERIFIED CUS CONCERN. INTERMITTENT. NO START CONDITION BEING CHECKING STARTING SYSTEM. STARTER AND CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD. CLUTCH SWITCH AND WIRING GOOD. IGNITION SWITCH AND WIRING ARE GOOD. AT PCM FIND ONE ROW OF PINS NOT FULLY SEATED ABLE TO MOVE AROUND WITHOUT DISCONNECTING CONNECTOR FOUND AND REPAIR PCM CONNECTOR
It might have something to do with the Engine Harness they replaced last time. Just because its OE stuff doesnt mean its good. Last time I got a brand new OE Radiator hose (the small ones), and it doesnt fit -_- I re-check and found that the hose are like at least 6 inches longer than it should. I have to cut them before they will fit. Argh so I wouldn't be surprise if the engine harness shipped with the problem

Now the car is back, everything works fine so far. but not gonna drive it much cuz both my mud guard broke, thx to NYC's garbage road conditions, ordered new parts thru Mazmart coming next monday.

again, Wayne Mazda is a good dealer. if this came from Manhattan Mazda, I probably end up getting some bullshit and wants me to pay for a new PCM or something. Just like the Overflow tank incident.

hopefully this fixes you and you can stop worry about the engine failing. Just enjoy it bro, if it fails later, it fails.

like swoope said, get out of the city and drive the $hit out of it.

I've been doing that sir ....

Right after I left the dealership I was driving .... *cough* .... some high speed, high rev driving for about 20-30 minutes. I love NJ roads/highways, 100 times better than NYC's garbage.
