08 6 port Auto

Greetings,

I've searched and searched, I can't seem to find a concrete answer as to whether an 05 6 port manual is the same engine as an 08 6 port automatic. A friend of mine plans to ls swap, and bought an 08 auto with paddle shifters, so 6 port, but I don't know if it would be a one for one swap with an 05 6 sport manual. I'd like to purchase the motor off of him to rebuild as a spare, but only if it's not going to need modification to mate up to the 6 speed transmission.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm with ya....no really clear answers that I've been able to find, but im in a similar pickle.. I found a bare bones short block that was pulled from an 06 automatic which is a 6 port and the guy is asking $100 (negotiable) for it. I wanna grab it to rebuild just to have an extra one lying around for my 04 manual, but I can't find anything online about it. So I'm gonna jump in the backseat of this thread and see where it goes.

It is, but you will need all of your engine's manifolds, sensors, etc. So just the keg swaps over.

But it's not a great idea to buy a motor to rebuild. If you're lucky the housing are OK, if you're unlucky they're not and you have to buy new housings. Better to buy a rebuilt engine.

If you can test it for compression first and get it cheaply, I see no reason not to grab up a sub $500 set of housings.
