Im here almost everyday so ..... from what I've read so far.

If your engine just started to "Experiencing" this problem, you should be fine.

but if it has been a while. then ..... try to get it compression test even u have to pay for it (make sure they do it right too! search is your friend here) So you get something on your hand, and at least you know what your engine is up to.

but to be safe, everyone flash it to the newest update, Mazda will issue a recall soon, forget about the safety issues for now, I dont think Mazda really wants to replace every single engine out there !

*Notice:People running with PRE-MIX should NOT be affected by this issue. but hey, update your software wont hurt, would it? *

i drive pretty docile for the most part, but step on the gas once or twice per outing just to keep things cleared up.....and yep, mine is an AT....dealer said that most engine replacements were in ATs....go figure. k

I had a similar problem to someone on this board with the clicking noise and uneven idle, I replaced the coil packs and everything was fine.

Do you only get a new engine if it is still under warranty.

Got 106,000 miles on my 04 rx8.

I have also had some of the symptoms decribed but figured it was just the heat of the summer, that's when I notice it most.

yeah...it think it would still need to be under warranty for the whole engine replacement thing....but you can get the latest S flash....this is supposed to correct the underlying issue that causes the potential engine damage in the first place. the reall bummer is that even some folks who are still under warranty are having a hard time getting a new engine covered....luckily for me, my dealer has been very willing to make things right. good luck. k

I also has a non-repro with U Mazda earlier this year on a stall. AFter 3 more stalls, Lee Johnson in Kirkland replaced my engine. I'd suggest taking it over there now that they have had to do this at least once they know what to look for.

and, from my own personal experience is that.

5w30 will smooth things out. ALOT !

I have no idea why Mazda have to listen to every single thing Ford has told them , including the 5w20 crap.

but I think 5w30 is way better

Maybe because they have engineers that actually designed and built the motors? Despite how crappy ford is I think I'd still trust a team of people that know the car than some guy who thinks it's better based on a butt dyno or gut feeling.

It's perfectly clear that 5W-30 is an acceptable oil since it's the weight that specified for all markets except North America (where Ford specifies 5W-20 because of corporate fuel economy issues).

as far as I know the rotary engine was build and designed by japanese people only.

correct me if Im wrong.

5w30 is fine for me, nice and smooth, and we KNOW that it will lube the engine better than 5w20.
