2006 shinka

i know that this might sound like a dumb question but, i could not find any info to answer my question. What does the shinka edition have that the other top models of the rx-8 dont have, what makes such a special edition.

Oooops! Sorry about that.
Well, do a search as it was just discussed the other day, but I know it has special colors, special interior color leather, some badging, and maybe some small other stuff, but not much! I'll see if I can find the thread.

shiinka's should have the following
--urethane foam injection in the front crossmember
--sand/alcantara leather interior, only.
--lustrous special high polished wheels
--tuned suspension topping the GT pkg with larger strut shaft diameter iirc.
-- and of course, the special color copper red offered with shiinka

^^and the '08s 40th anniv. model is basically the same thing as the shiinka except
-- special metropolitan grey mica
--the 40th anniv. rotary badges
--"new" dual 5 spoke 18" wheels( nice)
--and cosmo red leather( like that of the dark burg red of the older rx-7s) yumm....

but what i wanna find out is where i can find this "urethane" foam so i can essentially make mine's a shiinka, and stiffen body rigidity.

can't seem to know what store might have this. not home-depot thats for sure.

its either i find this foam...or its going the long route and welding up the body seams =(

any help nubb? or anyone?

i am quoting myself again... this is about the 4rth or 5th thread asking this in JUST the last 2 months

ALL 2005's were Black Cherry Mica

ALL Copper Red '06's were shinkas(some shinkas in standard color like my galaxy grey)

Windshield, front windows, and side mirrors impregnated/coated with a water shedding compound... aka permanent RainX

Foam filled cross members(i never noticed a difference between them, but i have met a few people who noticed it right away, 2 of them before they knew it was a shinka)

14mm dampers

wheel color( to me it seems to have more of a black chrome color)

Alcantera and leather seats... vs. 1 or 2 tone leather

headlight and taillight silver areas are shinier

all rings and silver dials are shinier

-- the stitching color i never noticed a difference on... maybe in 05 it was, but newer models i have seen stitched like mine.

urethane x members

foam filled crossmembers(i've never noticed a difference between them but a few people i've met noticed them right away before knowing it was a shiinka)

charles: it may be also helpful in reducing NVH, but i solely believe it does really help in the stiffness dept., as it would be a compliment to the 2mm increase in strut shaft diameter. it may even say so in the new car brochure somewhere...iirc.

i think a home-depot foam may be a "better than nothing" foam. and it really is just a "foam" in a bottle, not too stiff itself as i believe this "urethane" foam is more of a hardener imo.

^^hmmm. just check charles. i don't have tthis "expansion" firestop type foam. just some insulating foam which isn't stiff at all. nor is it suppose to if its only for insulating.

i may wanna check out this "expansion" foam at home-depot and take a look into its contents... thanks.

sorry to thread jack guys.
--on the same topic
and yes... it has some shinier ring accents and stuff for the shiinka. but why not just wait for the '08 anniv. edition? i really wanted the '06 for the copper red, but the '08's cosmo red interior is "RED HOT"!

point taken. well i'd still like to know what ingredient exactly that mazda uses in this urethane foam injection x member. urethane???

and yes...charles, from the PM i'm curious to find out what difference it is, and it may even be 2 totally different things for different application. since mazda's foam may be in fact use for NVH(my GT does have road vibration, so it'd be more so in a shiinka's bigger suspension, needing this foam) but i'd still like to see about this kind of "hardener" to use in the frame itself.

^^agreed and agreed.

its just that why would mazda give more aggressive offering in the shiinka? they should've given the beefed up suspension to the GT and all that other crap foam, (if its sole purpose was to reduce NVH) to the shiinka and let us GT guys to deal with the stiff/harshness/vibration without one complaint! at least not here =)

looking at the '08 brochure. it states 3,053 for stick and 3,084 for the sport AT with popular options, meaning everything i suppose.

for sure the 40th anniv. has got the same as the '06 shiinka. and if anything was to weigh anything...i'd compare only the foam x members and the bilstein shocks with the lower pkg ones. and minus that to the "popular options" weight, assuming u got the gt pkg.

is there a difference in swaybar thickness in the shiinka's and the GT's? maybe i should bust out my measurements on the GT's sways and hunt for stock shiinka sways if they are larger.

In re: swaybar thickness......what is the vehicle weight of the Shinka compared to the GT?
^^not sure

but yup. thats why i'm curious too. for the X member...it'd be silly to pursue using the "harder" material as it would be more weight. and with so much brace kits available... its easier to go with those. i'd like to find out the "somewhere in between the two" compound mazda uses...urethane foam??? urethane???
and use that for the X members only. and find the "harder" hardener liquid chemical that would only make sense to use in the rails in the frame itself. whatever that penguin brand liquiud chemical contains. saving time on 100-??? welds +strip interior+ more work+ equipment.

liquid chassis chemical stiffener that i saw in the japanese tuner mag= strip interior+ few drilled holes+ the chemical+ pouring spout+ tape...etc. lot less work it seems.

i want to look into this as we can have a option to "mix" things up. to look stock. to put weight only in the centralized area where it would only make sense, and weld where its more feasible under the fenders or other areas with seams thats out of plain view.
