20B Twin Turbo RX7 Engine in a RX8?

I'm certain this has been asked before, and I even searched for it, but could find no trace of it in the forums. Is it possible to mount a 20b RX7 Twin Turbo motor into an RX8? The reason I'm asking is because I deployed to the desert and left my car with a family member, they reved it too high one day and the engine detonated, leaving a toasted engine.

So, on one hand, I can get a new RENESIS engine for the car...orrr....go 20b twin turbo. Can anyone answer the question for me? Thanks.

*sigh*

you name urself computer nerd and u cant find the info ? ...

anyway, it has been done, but you're going to spend at least 5-6 times the money of a new Renesis. Plus you will not be able to pass emission test (if u have one) and its total illegal in the states.

Expect to spend $15K minimum on the swap, and several months setting it up. And as you dont see many threads on it, you basically have zero support on the subject. Id try and use the warranty myself........

BTW, detonation is not from reving it too high, detonation comes under heavy load(chances are they were saving thirty or forty cents on cheap gas).

you can get a decent used rew for 2.5k to 3.5k range. A rebuilt costs 3k to 4k range depending on what you want replaced. Install is another 1k or so.

If you're not doing the work, a base 20b will run you 30k range. Maybe a lot more, depending on your needs. Especially if you do the proper supporting mods

Sorry to hear about your engine CK! That's brutal. I hope said family member is going to pony up for at least some of the damage...

XDEEDDUBBX is right in that it was never in the RX-7, it was in the Cosmo, but it's misleading to say that it doesn't exist.

It's a 3-rotor twin turbo, but from what I can turn up it looks like this thing is an absolute fuel pig, and you definitely won't pass emissions standards. It also doesn't produce so much more power than the Renesis that the cost would justify getting one IMO, unless you're some kind of hardcore and you're going to mod the everloving crap out of it...

possible options

we have a 20 b in our wide body rx7..its great but like the guys say its very expensive...if you are think of a swap maybe go the route of a nice street port 13b with a single turbo..we have one of them in our daily driver..its 460hp runs strong and very reliable..but i guess at the end of the day its really what the wallet can afford and what your heart tells you for the passion end of it,..

there was a 20b twin turbo in the 1990-1995 Eunos Cosmo, the 20b-rew.

Before you seriously consider a 20b conversion, you should spend a couple of days reading all 51 pages of the thread at the link below:
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.ph...&highlight=20b

That will give you some idea of the potential pitfalls of such a project. As you probably know, this is not a trivial job, so you should plan on spending big bucks for such a project.

You might also want to contact a reputable shop like PFS of MD (Ray) to discuss the REAL possibilities. They recently installed an NA 20b in an RX-8, and from what I saw, this is not a simple drop-in job. Some custom fabrication and modification to the body components is required.

Dude, he is saying the 20b is possible but expensive, he owns one. And the 13b is capable of serious power while remaining dependable...its universal advice, and its correct.

Heh, more like a 100 pages. I actually read the entire thread a few moths back. Pretty good read.
