20w50 oil

on my next oil change i plan to do it myself im tired of shelling out 40$ at the dealer.... so i was wondering since i run 20w50 Valvoline vz-1 racing oil with mineral additives (not synthetic i used the dino version) on my RX-7 and it worked wonders on the engine.....if anyone here has tried it? the only reason i ran 20w50 is because its always hot in south florida.....and i raced the car on the weekend but now i drive the rx-8 more and race it on the weekends for now cause the 7 is out of commission for the time being. has anyone here tried 20w50 on there RX-8.

I'm considering changing up what I normally use for oil
Here's a couple threads to read and read and read lol

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/cumulative-synthetic-oil-discussion-52856/
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/renesis-oil-pressure-discussion-dealer-tech-183519/

Anyways ... from what I'm starting to understand is the type of Oil and Weight one uses is like religion.
Everyone seems to be devoted to their brand and thou shall not deviate!

So I do believe I saw some peeps using 20w50 somewhere.

5W-20 is recommended, 20W-50 is acceptable, or any in between is fine.

Depends on the temperature and on deep-seated religious beliefs.

It's a fairly common choice for racing applications. I run the high zinc version of it.
