232,000 on 2004 RX8 and I am the original owner
After 11 glorious years with my RX8 I retired her and bought a 15 mazda6. Adios forum. All of your comments were very helpful. Thanks all.

I had enough of the service expenses to end the pain. It was a fun car to drive, but after 232K and 12 years I am happy to be out of the car now. For the doubters about the mileage, here is an attachment of a service call last year, which reflects 221K at the time. If you really need to confirm it, call the dealer at the number listed, speak with anyone in the service department, as they were quite proud to have serviced it with it's mileage, and all from the original motor! If that doesn't work for you, get yourself some therapy.
from May 2014, a service bill for my 2004 RX8 with 221K at the time, original engine. I got rid of it at 232K.

Well.... I can certainly understand you wanting to get rid of the service expense if that is an example of what you were paying. Gratz on the mileage and all but I shake my head at $436 to replace a fuse and a simple section of the wiring harness. Sounds more like a $50 job to me, tops, most of that labor. $3 in parts.

Most dealerships charge in excess of $100/hr labor. A car shows up and isn't running you have try to figure if the issues is fuel or spark and go from there. It's not a 1/2 hour repair unless you just happen to make a lucky guess ... even then every dealership will charge the estimated repair book time regardless. On the flipside, sometimes they put in more time than the book rate and have to eat the difference. A dealership is almost always the highest cost repair option.

RIWWP: I really wanted to thank you for you posts. They were extremely helpful, especially the resetting tips. Also, wanted to mention that the best solution for me to fix flooding was to remove the big fuse under the hood for the fuel system and start the car without it, once it starting running, then replace it. But, seriously, you posts were outstanding. Funny thing about the Forum, I wasn't even aware of it until 2012, and by that time, I had endured a lot of pleasure and pain. I did have a 1988 RX7 which I had for 325K, with the original clutch! So I have enjoyed over .5 million on two RXs. Not bad.

That's very impressive that the car was still on the road with a 232k mile engine. That's near unheard of these days in a rotary. The 13B EGI engine in the 84-85 RX-7 GSL-SE was the most reliable rotary that Mazda has produced and in the club I have seen more than one with a 300k mile original engine. It just goes to show that preventative maintenance plays a big part in keeping a car on the road. What was your maintenance schedule like? Did you premix?
