Do you have the same issue when you downshift from 3 to 2? I had a similar problem with my 5th gear(without the clutch issue). You might have damaged the synchrons of the 2nd gear. Might need to change them.

Known issue. Welcome to the new transmission club!
Anyway you may want to investigate what helped its wear. How many miles are on the odo?

I actually have this issue on my new S2 on a cold start. The remedy for me is to double clutch 1 - 2 and 2 - 3 until the engine and tranny is fully warmed up. Im not sure if this is at all related to your issue though.

This happened to me not to long ago. Almost the same exact symptoms except it was grinding at 4k, the dealer said that it was a pain to get to the syncros and it would take them a while to get it done. I left my 8 them while I was in Japan and came back surprised by a new transmission. Apparently it is easier to just replace the tranny than pull out everything to get to the syncros. Makes sense and I'm def happy with the result haha.

Anyways the dreaded 2nd gear grind is def a pain, even more so if your out of warranty.

Good luck everybody

The synchros replacement is pretty expensive labor wise, they often have to replace more than the ones involved since there are other fragile "spots" and the shift forks bend pretty easily.
How's your clutch pedal?

Some s2 units came out with problematic transmissions, I can't remember the gears involved but a search should clear that up!
