5th gear grinding???
my rx8 will grind trying to go into 5th ever now and then, but the wierd part is it does it even if i try to shift slow versus shifting fast, and its only when im cruising at higher speeds..it is an 04 so yea i know that might have something to do with it...

My '04 has been doing the same thing, around 4K rpm and up going into 5th. I'm waiting until summer to bring it in, as I'll be able to do without the car more easily then. I made a note of it during my last warranty visit though, and they did the clutch switch TSB in response

quick question on all of our 'grinding' issues. I've flat out grinded 5th a couple times early on due to my fault, where i let the clutch out too early and heard a devastating shriek of gear on gear teeth grinding. Are all of our tranny problems where people hear 'grinding' referring to the same type of noise? I'm asking because I experience minor resistance when shifting into 2nd/5th, but no deadly grinding, more like strong resistance that results to extra clicking/clunking. I can manipulate the resistance by shifting faster/slower to its liking. Thanks for the help in advance.

Warranty is 60K
I had the same problem. My tranny had to be rebuilt. The drive train warranty on the 8 is 60k, to make sure call Mazda: 800 222 5500
Not sure if that number works outside of the US.
Cheers,

mysql101 now that u had it fixed do you hear the least bit of noise or is it totally gone?
