60,000 mile service

My car just hit 60,000 miles and I am going to do the service myself. Other than a few oil changes which I have done myself, I have had all of the service done at the dealer. But now that the warrant is out, I am done with the crazy dealer service prices. Anyway I am putting together a list based on searching the forum and the owners manual. I didn’t see a comprehensive list for this service on the forum. Let me know if I am missing something or if anyone has any suggestions.

Oil and filer – Pennzoil and OEM filter
Trans oil change - Redline MT90
Rear end oil change - Redline 75x90
fuel injector cleaner - BG 44k
Change radiator fluid - using 50/50 mix, year round driver in Chicago
Air filter - K&N clean and recharge
Spark plugs – NGK RE7CL and RE9BT (2 each)

Also, I am getting the Redline oil, oil filter, BG, and crush washers from finishlineperformance.com. And the plugs from sparkplugs.com.

Edit- Here are some of the DIYs I looked at -
oil - https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-rx-8-oil-change-dummies-12455/
spark plugs - https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-spark-plug-change-31872/
coolant - https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-coolant-change-100164/

I would be interested in a DIY write up. Specifically these items: fuel injector cleaner use, and spark plug change.

I just bough everything for the service. It came out to about $200, $90 of which was for the plugs. I have seen people on here say that the 60k service ran around 700 bucks which seems pretty accurate. And I have heard that the spark plug change goes for 300. So for me it is definately worth doing it myself.

funnie you mention that, i just picked up my car from doing my 60k maintenance. let know if you need to know what the dealer does or did to mine. The big thing tho, the air bag is still covered till 60K tho. saved me from paying them to put a new air bag wire harness.

As my ignition coils just died on me at 55k miles and left me stranded on a busy street I would suggest including them in the 60k service as well, especially for the early RX-8 with the original coils (which have since been redesigned ). If you are working in that area anyway, throw in the wires as well. Coils from our favorite online Mazda parts dealer run $26.95 each so a set of 4 for $107.80, and a set of wires runs around $57. My dealer just charged me about $38 per coil parts and $220 labor to diagnose and replace the 2 coils.

My $0.01

nycgps, you forgot a step. You gotta open the bottle of the fuel injector cleaner BEFORE you try to pour it in.

I replaced mine every 18 K, I was getting misfires if I hold on to high rpm.

No bigg, like 100 bux.

I've just hit 60,000 myself. I was wondering if it is really necessary to do all the dealer recommends. They quoted me around $630 without parts. Its basically for inspecting everything and changing/cleaning ALL the fluids. So at least add spark plugs to that price. I'm sure I'll need brakes too. I can see the oil change and brakes being done for sure, but I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep the car so is it really necessary to change all the fluids?

The only thing missing IMO would be a brake exam. Your brakes may be fine, but if they haven't had the pads replaced and the rotors resurfaced by 60K is prolly a good idea. Obviously something that most people may need a professional to do. Thats where a good portion of the typical $700 cost of the 60K check comes from.
