9000 Rpm in 5th: CEL Flashes

I took it to AutoZone to see if they could read the code, but since the light only flashed a couple of times before going off (I let off immediately upon seeing it flash and it quit flashing around 7k) they said the CPU wouldn't be sending a code.

It has driven fine since then, no indication of overheating or leaks of any kind, and I reved it up to 9k last night in 2nd to see if I could get the CEL to flash again but to no avail.

Was curious if perhaps the rev limiter could have tripped the CEL. Tried doing a search on this, but couldn't find anything. I may just be a noob at searching though.

Any thoughts? 2009 Sports Package Stock, 5k miles.

First off, where do live that you can do 9k in 5th? And most likely it was just a high speed misfire, it's common.

More than likely a misfire. Nothing to worry about unless it becomes more frequent. Then you might need a set of ignition coils or sparkplugs or coilwires.

That eases my mind a bit, but I'll keep watching it to see if it is the spark plugs. Thanks for the info you two.

Oh and as for where, there's a nice 5 mile stretch of straight interstate between Hattiesburg MS and New Orleans.

You may want to verify that the factory spark plug wires are firmly connected to the spark plugs. Previous model years had issues with the terminals on the plug end loosening up.

Ah yes, the wonderful stretch of I-10. NOT! Glad I got out of there when I did. Also, you should really take it easy through there, don't need to see another 8 up in smoke and more people dead.

^^

Hence what I was trying to achieve. While I do realize that there are safer ways to achieve top speed than on the interstate (I-59 not I-10), I wasn't racing anyone, the streets were dry, and there was no traffic around me when I made my run for top end. Does this excuse my behavior? Newp, but it did lower the risk. Do I advocate breaking the law by speeding? Newp, but I'm confident in my ability to drive, was comfortable with the risk, and like to take each of my cars out once to "see what they can do." Once again does this excuse my behavior or would the above save me from getting my car impounded had a patrol officer clocked me on radar? Newp, but you all knew that.

I appreciate the few comments of concern stressed above - I'm glad to see that you care about the reputation of the 8 and perhaps to a lesser extent the people driving them . On a lighter note, thanks again to those who offered suggestions to why the CEL light flashed. As of now, the car is running great and ready for a long life of TLC.
