ABS Module Reprogram for Non-DSC
Is this available? Has anyone every replaces the non-dsc ABS modules and had the dealer reprogram them? Dealer told me they only come preprogrammed and have to buy a new unit and I can’t reprogram a used abs module like you can on DSC models. Let me know if you have. Hate to spend $1k+ for one.

ABS modules all have the same As-Built data. You can replace ABS to ABS without reprogramming AFAIK. The more complex issue is replacing ABS with DSC or DSC with DSC.

That’s what I just recently figured out. Still getting a list of communication from the used module I bought from LKQ. I’m assuming it’s bad but I gotta dig further. It fixed my eps, brake lights though and I can actually get a speedometer reading.

Interesting. This is not the first time I hear there's a problem with USDM ABS or DSC units replacing. European 8s seem to be less complicated in communication between ECU and ABS/DSC
Ok, try to clear and reread DTC errors and post them here.

It’s weird, but may be a loose connection. The loss of communication dtc hasn’t came back since I erased it the second time. I do have a failing speed sensor on the right front that I plan to fix soon, but other than that it’s been working fine since.

eternal_gamer, thanks for your information. That made me feel a bit more confident USDM 8s are not so complicated than I started to think
What about the lost communication dtc-s. It feels like you have contact lose time to time in your CAN splice pack. It is a common well known issue for all european 8s I've been facing for last few years.
There are 2 CAN splice packs in RX-8: one in ECU box and the other is under the instrument panel on the drivers side, right after the firewall rubber boot. They both look like 1/2" square connector (can be white, gray or black) with cover plug plugged into them. Both have 3 or 4 CAN pairs crimped into (CAN pair is a twisted pair of blue with white strip and green with black strip wires). These splice packs are not sealed so it can happen that they oxidize and lose contact between each other. All you need to do is to take off the plug, clean terminals from oxides, spray there a small amount of contact grease and put the plug back. That will help for sure.
