Accessport question mt vs at quick reply needed
My friend is selling me an extra Cobb accessport for 200 brand new never used. My question is, considering he is an 04 manual, will his work for my 06 at with out new software to specify it to my model or can I go ahead and use it. Need help quick he leaves in the morning for a few weeks

I usually just gonna tell you to search but yea I be nice tonight.
First you gotta "un-marry" the AccessPort from the old car first. then you need to tuning to use it on your new car. don't bother with stock Cobb map. the tuning gonna cost a few hundred bux.

Sry I've been searching all night for info but havnt found much. The ap he has was never used as Cobb actualy sent him two by mistake. I was planning on in the morning plugging it into my computer and update it with a program I got off cobbs site and then connecting it to my car to see if it pulls up an at configuration option

You can try it, but I wouldn't pay 200 for "that". cuz you WILL need tuning service. otherwise what exactly is the point of having AP ? Well sure you can play around with some of the options but for me those "options" not worth 200 bux.

Since your on the subject: I just bought an Accessport with the Stage 1 and 2 and the racetune included. I assume stage 2 and the race tuner are options??? I know as little as possible about it but I got it pretty cheap. guess I ought to get on the website and see. I installed the Stage 1 and noticed a difference in the peppiness of it. ( The rev limiter warning started coming on, bummer) which is probably a good thing for me since I like the red line so much better than the idle line. There is a race shop a few miles away that will super tune it for $400.00. That is a sizeable chunk of change but will probably be worth it. They boast they can take out the rpm dips and make it much more pleasurable to drive. I spoke to a guy that had his done and he couldn't quit talking about how great his ran. We'll see.....

05 had hmm 2
06-08 share the same thing (I could be wrong at some revision, but I'm sure 06-08 share the same ECU)
09+ use a completely different ECU, that's why AP doesn't work anymore and they just don't want to spend the money to "update" it, simply because 09+ volume is so low, it does not make any business sense to do it.
For me, I'm sticking with RB tho. I got my first flash before AP even exist(for rx8 that is), then MSP16 came out, Mazda flashed it. Last year, I paid 150 to re-flash it again, it's based on newest flash anyway. I will never run catless cuz I hate that smell. so the "remove CEL" function don't mean **** to me.

All AccessPORTs for the RX-8 are electrically the same. They will work on any RX-8 from 2003 through 2008.
That said, you will be stuck with regards to the AT since only PROTuners can make calibrations for them.
I'm sure Cobb would be happy to hear that they "accidentally" sent him two when he paid for one. I'm pretty sure that is, as they say, theft.
Especially if he profits from it by "selling" it to you which is, as they say, receiving stolen property.
lol
Quoted for posterity.

Nope.

Theft requires taking with intent to deprive. The laws favor the recipient, probably in part because sending unsolicited merchandise and then billing for it is such a common scam.

Yea but this was not unsolicited merchandise, he ordered one and got a 2nd by mistake. There is a part on that site that covers "shipping errors".
It also says this.
So yea you could keep it if you wanted, or you could do the right thing and offer to send it back if the company pays for all shipping charges, if they wont or tell you you must pay for it then keep it.
Q. What should I do if the unordered merchandise I received was the result of an honest shipping error?
A. Write the seller and offer to return the merchandise, provided the seller pays for postage and handling. Give the seller a specific and reasonable amount of time (say 30 days) to pick up the merchandise or arrange to have it returned at no expense to you. Tell the seller that you reserve the right to keep the merchandise or dispose of it after the specified time has passed.

Federal laws prohibit mailing unordered merchandise to consumers and then demanding payment.

Actually, the Access Race Tuner comes with the stock AT map. So you could still make modifications yourself if he chooses.

Thanks Juansito. That is a grand idea. Now, what does Mazdamaniac offer. Is it an individual, a tuning facility or what. I've heard of a couple of scammers out there that will charge you for performance updates on the port and deliver the basic stage 1 setup. I spoke to an RX8 racer here that has had experiences like that. I'll look into this mazdamaniac and see whats up with them.

MazdaManiac responded earlier in the thread...
But it's not a scam. Basically you download the latest software, MM's base tune, install the AP on the car's ECU (digital installation, like a software ap, not physical installation), Give it a few drive cycles to clear up, then pull 2 data logs. On a Tuesday (he posts the schedule dates), you link up with him live via GoogleChat and upload the logs and the tune data to him, he runs his brain over it and makes adjustments to the base tune specific to your car, and sends it back to you. Usually within an hour. You then download these to the AP again, go back out to your 8, load up the new tune, get a 2nd set of data logs, 3 this time, return to your computer, upload the logs and the tune to him, he runs his brain across them again, modifying your tune, sends you a new one, etc...
He said most people take 4-6 exchanges this way to get their tune optimized for their specific car. And it is 99% of the way to where you could get to if you were paying for dyno tuning time.
I'm going through it right now, on my 3rd tune from him, and the engine feels absolutely fantastic.
