Unhappy Airbag Light Problem - Please help!

Hi guys,

Newbie here and been struggling with an Airbag light with my JDM RX8 for a while now.

It was involved in a very minor accident recently but the airbags were deployed. I've had all repair work done and the airbags replaced. Including a new airbag ECU.

What I need to know is will it be a simple reset for the light or will I need to have this new ECU reprogrammed? Unfortunately my local dealer hasn't inspired any confidence and charges a very high hourly rate to "investigate".

Also are there any info on codes on the forum? The light flashes once then pause then 4 times then pause. Repeats it self over and over again. Does this indicate code 14?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Are you sure that the SAS Control Module and the Crash Zone sensor was replaced?
This and disconnected hiring harnesses are the only thing I can really find (thats practical) in the shop manuals. And it says that there is no way to "self-check" these.
It does say that if the SAS Control Module is replaced, you need to turn the key to the 'ON' position for 20sec or more. Its a long shot, but maybe they didn't do this.
I couldn't find anything about "flashing codes" like older cars used to have for the CEL. Maybe a simple call to the dealer and asking them if the code means anything would be best. If you don't like that dealer, call another.
I know this probably wasn't helpful, but I got nothing...

Could be another long shot, but I saw this while browsing through the TSBs:
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...02-06-1541.pdf
First sentence says, "If the SAS unit is not configured during replacement, it will store a B1342 and B2477 DTC."
Maybe this is the flashing alert you are receiving. It might be worth printing this out and taking it to the dealer to have them look at it.

I had a flashing airbag light caused by a loosened connector under the passenger seat. At least one other owner had this issue so it's worth checking yourself. Just re-seat the connector with power off.

Yes I’m sure both of those things were replaced. I bought the parts and have/ had the old ones.

I see in your second post that the module has to be reprogrammed after its been installed. So might just print this bulletin and take it to Mazda.

I doubt this would be the issue, my car being JDM doesn’t have any seat airbags.

This seems to be spot on. Shows exactly what needs to be done.

But what I need is the "As-Built Data" as on page 6 of this bulletin...

Is there anywhere I can obtain this for my JDM RX8? May be a friendly Mazda dealer?

Any help would be much much appreciated!

Your "friendly" Mazda dealer is the only way I know.

He wasn't talking about "seat airbags". He was talking about the fact that your passenger seat has a switch in it that is part of the "smart" airbag technology.

Is there a fuse for the airbags? I couldn't find it when I was ‘investigating’ previously.

Either way the under seat connector or fuse are not likely to be the problem.

I’ve pretty much pinned the problem down, I also now know that the solution is likely to be - it’s now a case of locating someone that can provide that solution.
