Inquiring Minds Want To Know. I'm curious too. I'm a newb to car alarms.. How does a remote engine start work for manual trannys.. especially for those who like to leave their car in 1st for "roll" protection?

you have to bypass the clutch so that the car will start without the clutch being pressed, you will have to sacrifice parking in 1st because of this, and you can also hook it up to the handbrake so that it will not start unless the handbrake is up, and if it is let down the remote start will shut off, the same with the clutch being depressed, this is a very good security measure......
i hope i have it right!

well for starters it is illegal to install a remote start in a car with a manuel tranny, on top of it is not recommended to install any after market parts on a car with a can network system

What is a "can network system" and 2nd question-can I have an aftermarket remote start installed on my automatic rx-8 and not void warranty. My dealer wants about $ 800.00 (he says he also has to upgrade alarm system).

Note: PANDA you are correct about the clutch and e-brake. the clutch is bypassed and the e-brake MUST be on and the car must be left in neutral.

i was told by a few installer in Vancouver that installing remote start is illegal on manual cars. however with that said, once you get into the habit of putting it in neutral when parked, it is awesome.
i had it in my previous cars.
I am just curious, since our alarm is already quite good, i am hoping to get away with adding a remote start module to the existing alarm.
is that possible?
harwax, would you mind expanding more on the "can network" stuff?
thanks in advance!

well my advice is that if you are that unfamiliar with a cars system then i would not go messing with it. as for any ? on the can system go buy a shop manuel, and any good mazda tech will rip any after market item out if it is seen since mazda has a problem with aftermarket items.
