Allright what's the truth about oil

I just bought my 2009 rx8 GT and I have been trolling around this place for a while. I have searched and searched and I keep hearing that synthetic oil is bad for the rx and that it will void your warranty and that it comes from Satan and that Jenna Jameson lists it as her second favorite beverage ....

Sonwhat is the truth behind this stuff? Is it bad for the car? I have tried searching on this place and I get a bunch of stuff but all of it is very vague. I would like to know what synth does to the car, how it hurts the car or if it the fears are just myths like female orgasms and the Dallas Mavericks ever winning a title....

The mazda dealership told me to use regular 5w-20. that synthetic is bad for your engine and that if you run it long enough youll have to replace your catalytic converter. I would assume the mechanic at mazda would know what hes talking about

Most mechanics at Mazda don't have a clue. Most synthetics are fine, of course, better than dino oil. But keep in mind that a typical oil change in the 8 only changes about 50% of the oil so frequent oil changes are good, whether it's dino or synthetic. Personally, I don't think synthetic is worth the extra money if you're going to be changing it frequently, which you should.

You would assume wrong. 90% of mazda certified techs know nothing about rotaries other than the service manual they have to pull out when they go to work on them. 9% have at least an idea, 1% actually know what in the hell they are talking about beyond that book.

For example, why does he say the cat? that is part of the exhaust system. The only way oil is getting through there is if it's unburnt. If it is unburnt at all, what makes you think synthetic is going to do anything different to the cat than non synthetic? Or 5w20 vs 20w50?

The truth is, Synthetic was never tested by Mazda, and because it wasn't tested, they aren't willing to endorse it. Completely understandable. Anyone who claims that it voids your warranty is talking out of their *** or talking to scare you, because it never once says anywhere officially across all owners that syn will void a warranty, only "the tech at X dealership told me" stories.

Just like 5w20 is just "recommended". Recommended means that other weights are viable alternatives, but Mazda suggests you use 5w20. Suggestions can not hold up in court as instructions to avoid voiding warranty. They never have, they never will. Mazda has to write their rules based on that. If they said "5w20 non-syn required", then yes, you can have warranty voided using else, but that isn't what the owner's manual that is the legal document Mazda is required to provide and courts will back up...says.

So the truth is, what weight and type of oil is best for you depends on the circumstances of your environment and conditions. Just like there isn't a "best" spring or a "best" sway bar or a "best" tire. What is "best" depends on the circumstances in effect and the usage intended.

Make your own choices. It's all anyone can ever do.

The truth is

Synthetic is fine. a REAL Synthetic that is.

Ester based is da best, PAO is fine as well. No Hydrocracked. not saying its bad, but I wouldn't pay Ester/PAO based price for cheap *** stuff like hydrocracked.

Whoa dude. I was simply stating what a mechanic told me. Not that I know for a fact that guy was right or that I know everything. I said I assumed that guy would be right seeing as how he is a mechanic and all and does happen to be the dealerships rx8 go-to-guy. No need to be an ***. ***

LOL, there is no truth about oil and searching will bring as many questions as answers at times. It is up to you, and the best you can do to understand what oil is best for you is to do your own research on how each company produces their oil as well as an understanding of the weight numbers. There are synthetics out there that rate worse then certain dino oils in lab test lol.

Oil is any substance that is liquid at ambient temperatures and is hydrophobic but soluble in organic solvents. Oils have a high carbon and hydrogen content and are nonpolar substances. The general definition above includes compound classes with otherwise unrelated chemical structures, properties and uses, including vegetable oils, petrochemical oils, and volatile essential oils. All oils can be traced back to organic sources.
There you have it. Agents have been dispatched to your location to silence you now that this critical information has been revealed.

also search for "sohn OMP adapter"

it allows a seperate reservoir for the OMP injectors, and you refill that tank with good burnable 2 cycle. http://www.rotaryinsider.com/diy-tac...pter-gap28.htm

then you can run the best synthetic without any worries :D

...you really have come to the wrong site if you want to get the "truth" about oil, because here the truth is what you want to believe it to be.
You may want to try www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/, a more informed source for oil truths. There's a section on rotary wankels and oils , (not to get confused with rotary piston aero engines).

The new series 2, like yours, does have warning in the OM that synthetic comes from Satan and shouldn't be used! Nearly all the advice here is for the series 1 engines and Mazda were giving warnings for that engine dating back to 2004, but obviously not as specific as some would have liked.....
