Amazing PCM
Guys,
As some of you know, I had a bad experience with contaminated fuel over the weekend.
I watched with a degree of amazement as the "technician" connected the computer into the RX-8's OBDII port and pulled all the info from the PCM.
The PCM throws 3 "soft codes" on one problem before it throws a "hard" code, and the engine light then stays on. That is what happened with me. All three "soft codes" indicated a misfire in the engine (even noting which rotor!) The diagnosis help for this code is to check for a blocked or kinked fuel line and/or contaminated fuel (plus a few other things).
When the hard code is thrown, the PCM takes a dump of all the available sensory inputs at the instant the fault occurred. I was keen to go through this with my freindly technician, and some of the figures I remember were:
TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) 48%
Cat temperature 840 degrees C
Engine Speed 4150 RPM
Road Speed 50km/h
Engine Load 100%
.
.
.
and about a hundred other things, including wideband O2 sensor readings (indicating the richness of the mixture, and other info that can be read from the exhaust).
Very impressive. Take care!
Cheers,
Hymee.
PS - Thanks for Grand Prix Mazda for edumacating me.
