American/Australian ECUs??????
Being the inquisitive Detective that i am i have just realised that in Canzoomers instructions of the installation of stage 1 kit the ECU the serial number for the American ECU is different to the Australian rx8s.
American ECU is N 3 H 6. (page6 on the instructions) canzoomers
On the Australian car the serial number on the ECU is different.
ECU IS N 3 J 6 HMMMMMMMMMMM.very interesting.
Could this be the missing link between the two cars or is it just a different production timing thing???????????
Any thoughts.
Michael

Now, I'm not sayin' anything, but considering the Aussie ECU is in English (for anything that it might impact), would it be possible to swap the Oz one for ours for the HP/gas mileage? Just a thought...

Not Applicable.
Look, if the CANZOOMER MOD does not work for the Austeralian car, SAY SO! and then let us move on!
It is not the end of the world, they have their local tuners to develop something for their needs, and we can get the air cleared, but this silence is casting a shadow over the whole issue.

Yeah, it would appear that the Oz 8's have a mapping almost exactly like 'Zoomer's. So the gain was virtually nil, unlike the NA market where there was much to be had due to the fattening up of the 5k+ fuel curve by Mazda at the last minute.

Woh, Felix, where did THAT come from? What silence and shadow are you talking about?

Don't ask me why. I just donate my time and equipment. Heck, I'm just a moderator.
I just noticed I need to go read it again, as there has been some activity since the last time I checked.
My personal impression - the silence is deafening.
Cheers,
Hymee.

Has anyone over there (Oz) actually hooked up a wide band O2 sensor and taken a gander at what is going on?
I was under the impression that Canzoomer wasn't sending any units over there until he had a test mule with a WBO2S and EGT sensor.
Why would you risk running super lean like that without instrumentation?

This all got me to thinking on something -
Maurice indicates that the CAT won't survive very long on the elevated temps of stage II.
However, if the Aussies are already at stage I with the OEM tuning, wouldn't any small increase in ignition timing yield the same destructive temps?
I think we may have been underestimating the resiliency of the CAT.

I have previously also posted Dyno results with a wideband O2 logs included.
For the tests on the Canzoomer controller performed this week, my test documention explains how this was performed using the cars existing wideband O2 sensor. The same one the computer is using. I could say here and now what the AFR's were, but I might get into trouble
The AFR's on a WOT run on my stock '8 are in the low 12's and occasionally dip into the 11's. This is in open loop. I know it is because the computer tells me so. In cruise in closed loop she is right on stoichiometric. I know that because the computer tells me so. I can also see what AFR the computer is trying to obtain. It is all extremely interesting.
Cheers,
Hymee.
PS - Also the EGTs are available from the OBDII as well.
PPS - I hope to post my test documentation soon. Canzoomer has reviewed them.

That is what Mazda Australia maintains. But "full" power to them is 177kW (238HP), as they always publicly advertised it as such, once it was offically launched.
But the nice glossy RX-8 history book they sent me always mentions 250HP everywhere. That equates to 186kW for us.
Cheers,
Hymee.
Are the Jap spec cars still rated at 250HP? If so, we are not making the full bottle. We just got sold a full bottle that just happened to be smaller

rxeightr,
I did not feel the difference I felt when CZ's stage 1 was turned on like I did the other day, compared to when it was off. The most pronounced thing to me with the stage 1 was something happening in the mid range. The graphs show the story when I get them posted...
Remember I had not been in an RX-8 for a while, and did not jump out of one into another, like I was able to do when we did the tests.
But still, your car felt 'similar' to mine when I drove it. How about next time I make sure I bring my MR Dyno with me
Cheers,
Hymee.

It has been entertaining seeing what work you have accomplished, such as your cat-back. I look forward to seeing what other "Hymee Specials" make their way to the marketplace.

And I for one love Hymee's website www.rx8.hymee.com.
Please keep it just as clean and simple.

Jax,
The site is a little embarrasing at the moment, but it is a start nonetheless.
I was nearly gunna say that the "www." bit was not necessary, as you only need to go to http://rx8.hymee.com, but thanks to the marvels of modern technology the www. prefix works as well. I need to go and change www.hymee.com to have a few links for those who get a bit lost
Cheers,
Hymee.
