Angry annoying noises...anyone got a clue???

yea so...i tired searching for what the rattle noise was inside the car...i thought it was the back side little windows that some had rattle problems but that wasnt it. it seems like the noise is coming from the rear windshield and the rattle is DRIVING ME INSANEEEE....anyone got a clue????

also, seems like at times theres this high wizzing noise when i give it some gas...i think it might be a leaky gasket...what you guys think???

Could be the sunroof, if you have one. I had a rattle that I thought sounded like it was in the back seat somewhere...but it was actually the sunroof rattling terribly. But some WD40 took care of the joints.

Not sure about the wizzing....rotary engine?

oh its definitely not my sunroof...i had others inside my car and confirmed that the rattle was coming from the back windshield area

and the wizzing sounds like its coming from the outside, underneath the car

Not sure about that rattling, but as far as the wizzing, I had this same experience a few months ago. I took it to the dealer and took a ride with the service manager. I pointed out the noise to him and he assured me that all 8's had that same noise. I took a ride in one of the 8's on the lot, and sure enough, it sounded the same. Now that I know it's normal, I don't even notice it anymore. I think I just wasnt used to the rotary sound. Might be completely different than what you are hearing though. Never a bad idea to take it to the dealer just incase.

I have a squeaky rattle that seems to be my rear windshield- I only hear it when at slow speeds, entering a driveway, or turning over a bump. It sounds like "flexing". I posted a thread to no real tangible results. ....Its quiet in motion, except over bumps....

Read the thread that starts at the link below for your "rear window" rattle. Especially read the last 2 posts. I would have thought you would have read this sticky since it deals with rattles.

My car did that also, I found it to be a wire that runs through the roof of the car. Their is a wire connectior between the roof and the headliner and you can feel it just by pulling the headliner down a little in the center of the rear window. The problem is that the plug makes contact with the steel roof and creates a high pitch rattle. If this is your problem then just stick a small piece of form between the roof and the connector.
Another area that rattles around the rear window is that rear shelf. If you tap on it and it rattles, then that could also be your problem. The difficult part is you have to take apart half the interior to fix it. You can PM me if you want help with that.

thanks Go48. Never saw this thread either, so appreciate the link. It'll give me something to do this weekend and sounds very much like what I have.

How do you drop the head liner down to get to the wire that runs to the rear window?
Using foam sounds like a good idea.

the 8 is gonna rattle, I've come to live with this fact. If you want a car as light as the 8, you are gonna have to expect some rattles. If you cant deal with it, get a g35

What material do you guys use to stop the rattle, I found one of mine from the power window button plastic panel, took it off grease it but I'm still getting the plastic rubbing sound? Sorry to hijack.

I use felt with a adheive backing. You can get it at any craft store such as jo-an fabricks etc. It comes in a 8 x 10 sheets. The thinner the better but if you look around the car Mazda used something simular to stop rattles.

Also If someone has a rattle that is coming from the left of the insrtument panel (I though it was coming from the side window defrost vent or the small tweeter cover on the door) it is coming from a wire bundle running through the steering colum. If you take apart the cover for the colum you will see the wireing bundle to the left of the steering shaft and aft of the turn signal contol. The colum cover is designed to not make contact with this bundle but on my car it did and caused a vibration over ruff pavement. Let me know if anyone wants a pix. BTW I just wraped it in felt and the problem is gone.

sorry for not repleying earlier but I missed your post.

The wire is just inside the aft part of the headliner. If you just feel inside the headliner in the middle of the car you will feel it. No need to remove anything just a gentle pull and the headliner will bend just enouph to feel it.

Here is a pix of what I mean, Hope this works for you.

If you have the spare tire and kit, check to make sure they are secure and nothing inside the kit box has come loose. I tracked down a rattle in the back of my car and it was the kit.

Is it the console that leads to the trunk? That can cause a rattle.
