another flashing CEL thread

so about 2 weeks back i was at a auto-cross in my 2007 8 and i put down at least.....7 runs in and i drove all out on the last three runs consistently with out stopping. the engine was up in the red line for most of the track on those last few runs. on the very last run as i was coming out of the last corner to start the last set of cones and my CEL started flashing erratically as soon as i noticed it a lifted off the throttle completely and let the car roll in neutral and i could hear what sounded like i suppose was miss fire or multiple back fires each time i heard the pop the cel flashed at the same time and it was a lot of repeated pops. as i let the car roll into the pit area the cel went away on its own. yesterday i changed the ignition coils and the spark plugs (car starts up like a champ now) i figured i didnt have to change the wires since i changed them about 6-9k back but the coil packs were completely fried the car has 46.8k miles on the engine. when i bought the car it had the original spark plugs and wires on there. so my question is this if the car ran for roughly 16k miles on bad coils and 6k of them with the original spark plugs and wires how bad of a condition could my cat be in or my engine for that matter. if its just the cat then i have a good excuse to get the racing beat or agency power cat. if its not the cat and my engine is shitting on me then im going to be a sad panda. the car is completely stock with the k&n replacement high flow filter in case anyone is wondering and i do my oil change every 2500-3000 miles.

instead of asking some strangers to diagnose an issue that they can't do properly, take your car out for a hard drive at night, pull into your driveway, drop down on your guts and have a look at the cat. Or, lift your car, pull the front of the cat down and visually inspect.
Read up on how a f*cked ignition system can mess with your engine...

Overheating cat can also cook the O2 sensors (one or both) and melt underbody components

It sounds like you accelerated cat failure, but it hasn't failed yet.

hmm.... im going to see if i cant remove the cat sometime this week to inspect it....the car is still under warrenty so i should be able to replace it if its clogged right? if not then ill prolly just get the ap cat or rb cat. hopefully the o2 sensor isnt fried either but its not throwing a cel anymore so i doubt it

It sounds like you are worried over nothing, don't take everything you read on this forum as gospel. Some people have no real clue, some have a vested interest in pointing you a particular way, and once in a while something factual is represented accurately. The only unplugged OE cat is a brand new unused one, but unless you are experiencing a power loss, flashing CEL, and glowing red cat converter when everything else checks out OK then your cat converter is likely normal for it's mileage.

They should change the name of this forum to something more appropriate like Assumptions101Club or 1+1=3Club

I wouldn't expect to find anything different in that regard on any other forum. Car forum or not.

How about instead of arguing you help the dam guy. Replace cat. Compression test the motor. Youll likely have it fixed in no time
