Exclamation Another New Engine!!!

LOL so i was driving my RX-8 and noticed it was leaking oil... not wanting to look and see wtf was up and thinking it would be easier, i took it back to the Mazda Dealer to have it looked at. Turns out they didnt tighten all the bolts and oil was gushing out, so the seals are **** again and their getting me a WHOLE NEW ENGINE again... this sucks, i only had 150 miles on the first new engine and now i dont get my car again for a week while it gets another new engine... then i gotta start all over on the break-in period again... sigh...

How long did you continue you run the engine knowing something was wrong.

How many minutes did you continue to run the engine knowing something was wrong till you ended up at the dealership.

Let me get this straight, you drove it back to the dealership after you found out (in your words) oil was gushing out?

So I guess next time when your car is leaking a vital fluid you will park it and get a tow. Doing that could could have saved the engine.

I think they're being hard on you because any self-respecting lover of his/her car would not drive it if it was leaking oil in any way.

Was this ' few Drops ' noticed while parked or with the engine running?? You do know that when the engine is running the oil is under pressure. A few drops under a parked car can be a major leak while running. Since the total oil capacity of an RX-8 is almost 8 quarts you must of had a larger leak. I would be sure to thoroughly check out the car after you get the 2nd engine and check the oil daily for the first few weeks.

Amen, mostly because a new engine is an expense for mazda.
Reducing wasted money would help the rotary engine imho, especially in third world countries like mine, where there are no shops that can rebuild it.
Mazda dealerships don't even decarb engines here, they just change them.
waste of money.

question for expo 1. 2004 6spd. 55,000 miles and just had the engine replaced.after driving for about 20 minutes and came back out from the mall the engine sounded different and being low on gas i topped her off .when i got home it was still sounding a little off so i checked under the hood to find a vac.hose off.it came off while driving and burnrt a little on the alt pulley.i cut it off where the hole was on the hose and reinstalled it.now this was at 11pm at nite and i can't sleep to good .do you think they put in this reman engine with problems to be found out later or is my dealer to dumb to fix it right the first time?now for the little history.oil was changed every 3,500.wro has replaced the oil pan, front and rear tail lights and headlights, transmission, water pump, battery ,starter, clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing, spark plugs four or five times, and the cat as well!all recalls that made the car run and sound different every time they retuned it.untill the engine failure what the hell is going on on?

I don’t think dealership employees are dumb, I just think they don’t care. Think about it you drive your 8 for thousands of miles, they around the block and they still try and make you feel like you know nothing about how your car is supposed to run. This might be a stereotype but I feel the people that work in the service area also tend to not be as customer focused as other type of workers so they just don’t know how to relate to people.
The Reman cam in on a pallet and the shop put it in. they have no clue has to how it will run in your car. They are trusting the factory that did the rebuilt did it right. I didn’t trust the dealership or a Mazda Reman and chose to have my rebuilt done by Mazda enthusiast (Mazmart) and installed by someone that owns his shop, not just punching a time clock. So far that looks to have been a good choice. How has it been running since you put the hose back on? I might also think about getting a baseline compression test done.

I was having a oil leaking issue at the track, around town things were ok. But 4 x 25 minute runs @ high RPM on a track like Watkins Glen was a bit much for her. Paul from Mazmart had a few rebuilds around so around 110,000 I bought one and had Jim from JPR do the install. There is a very good THREAD out there with photos from Mazmart when they took apart my engine. Could I have put off the rebuild? Paul from Mazmart thought so. Could I drive 80 minutes on a track, no. So I had an elective engine replacement done around 110,000 miles. My 8 is no longer my DD so it will be a while till I hit 200,000

well i took the car to another dealer and they said the cat. is shot again i need to spend $1600.00 for a oil pump and another $300.00 for a port motor that seemed to fail after the engine install!i am really bothered that all these swapped out conponents are failing one by one.whats next the alternator then the water pump?if i had broken these things myself i would not complain i just feel it is to odd that after a engine replacement everything they touched is going into the *******.without reason.just totally fu*&#@.and i don't like it.
