any suggestions for a new kid on the block?
Hey all, by tomarrow afternoon i will officially be an RX8 owner.
Ive read and read to try to figure out the tricks and all to keeping the car running strong. so far i know about flooding and to warm it up before shut offs. I have also learned that i should get the ECU flashed to an M. Im not completely sure of this process and if the dealer will do it free?? i heard the do. i also learned that a couple oz. of 2 stroke oil every fill up is beneficial.
Its a 2004 so im in for a ride but my budget was limited to what i can get for a trade in value of my truck. it does have 58k miles but when i test drove it it was runnning super clean and smooth, shifts where awsome and the little rotors put some power out. after that i was in love.
im just wanting to make sure i get the highlights of what i should be aware of and how to aviod/fix them. Well all and all, any help is appreciated!!!

welcome to the cult!!!! errrr.... "club"
Step #1: read the owner's manual from cover to cover. I know this sounds basic and rather silly but it truly is one of the best things a new owner can do. I guarantee you'll learn things you didn't think were in there.
Step #2: take care of your car and it'll take care of you.
consistant scheduled maintenance is your friend. I change my oil every 3k, I check my oil level every few weeks, and I make sure I only use premium fuel.
Since you mentioned pre-mix, I highly suggest Idemitsu premix. you can get it from several places but www.mazdatrix.com is a popular option.
post pics when you get the car.

thanks guys, i would of had the car monday but the check engine light was on when i test drove it and they found out before selling the car that it needed a blower motor....i have never in my life heard of a blower motor and supposedely it cost them 600 and something bucks, but im glad the are watching out for the customer, i know im getting a good 8 from these guys, i c if i can put a pic in my sig, im sure most of yall are tired of seeing stock 8s on here from newbies lol.
i did notice on the first rx8 i drove, the fuel level was on the last tick and the damn thing shut off...the car itself was having alot of problems like shuttering while idleing and moving, it also had some electronical issues where the speakers werent playing and the right rear view mirror wasnt working. but ya it ran outta gas on us and had to wait 20 mins for the sales man to come give us gas, then he needed to jump the car but it was because the cable was loose on the connection. he never saw us again when we got back to the dealer lmao...
but do all 8s shut off at the last tick? i usually keep my cars above a quarter anyways but still helpful to know.

That is a great summary thread. I was new to RX-8's and rotaries only a couple years ago and the wealth of info all over this forum is truly valuable. Don't be afraid to search - many of the items in that above thread are covered in intense detail other places on the forum so searching to find them and understand better is a great idea. It really is amazing how much there can be to learn if you want to and if you do homework so you're not asking questions which have been asked 10,000 times already, the people on here will be super helpful! (and a lot of times even when the question gets asked for the 10,001st time they still are)
Welcome and enjoy - cars aren't my life, but there's not a single day I drive my car and I don't smile about it.
