Anyone want a real gear for cruising on the freeway?

I'm not too sure I personally would want to void the transmission warranty this early on. I dunno, I would like to have a taller 6th though. Mainly because it would allow me to run a shorter rear axle ratio and maintain decent mileage. :D
While they're at it, maybe they can have a look and see what the weak points of this transmission are. I'm going to hold off buying any sort of FI, mainly because I don't want to have to blow another big wad of cash when the transmission fails.

I'm not going to spend any money to re-gear my 8, but I don't for the life of me understand why Mazda geared it this way. With 6 gears, there are plenty of gears to satisfy both the performance freaks who want to do the LA to Vegas run at 6000 rpm and those that want to do it in a single tank at 3000 rpm. I understand why my Miata is geared the way it is, but the 8 has almost twice the HP and it's just not necessary. Both the 5 and the 6 gears need to be stretched out.
And... Jeesh, only a confirmed dingbat would accelerate in 6th. You bought all those gears, for a reason, use them.

/\/\/\/\/\ Ditto. The way I see it, you're not really supposed to have a whole lot of acceleration in 6th. That's what 5th should be there for....think about it, what's easier--a drop down to 3rd or 4th (awkward, with three motions), or a quick flick of the wrist to 5th. Fifth ought to be good for moderate passing acceleration, and it's not really. Half the time I skip 5th entirely.
So a taller 6th and then a shorter rear gear, so 5th actually means something (well all the gears, heh). If you want acceleration in 6th gear without having to shift....you picked the wrong car, go buy a new GTO with an automatic.
And yeah Omicron, you're probably right about the dealer not noticing. I'd probably give it a shot eventually. Exhaust and the Canzoomer box may have to come first though. :D
Glad you like the avatar, Nubo...did you know Tesla invented a rotary engine? A bladeless turbine actually, it's pretty far-out, but probably not suitable for cars. I've always thought it looked like a good idea for making a cheaper turbo or something though.
