Apparently DSC/TCS "full off" isn't full off.

Yes, I pressed the DSC/TCS button for 7+ seconds with both lights lit. WIth that said, I tried to have some fun in the rain (vacant parking lot), and I can feel/hear electrical nannies engaging the brakes. Yes, I was trying to get a little sideways. It would crunch the rear brakes mid turn.
I have had no problems with it engaging during AutoX last season, and would get quite sideways unintentionally and intentionally during a few heats.
What gives?

HUH...SNTP...The ABS Brakes will ALWAYS work mate...irregardless of DSC Partial Off or Full OFF.
Your brakes are brakes...why would one not want to stop in the quickest, fail safe, way?
You can't disable ABS.
Edit...Try your Hand Brake, sorry "emergency brake".

In other words 'DSC Off' only light means the nanny is still on but gives you a little more freedom....or Sports Mode.
Hold down for 8 seconds at start only, you get 'DSC Off' light on and 'Skid Light' on, meaning NO DSC whatsoever....which can only be reset or turned back on by restarting car.
So you basically have DSC in 3 settings..like some brands have 2 or 3 buttons, Mazda just has one.
DSC On (no Warning Lights)
DSC Sport ('DSC off' only light on)
DSC OFF ('DSC off' and 'Skid track' lights on)

So I'm throwing in my hand,
ABS sucks **** on Snow and on most loose gravel roads, period.
I'll give you the win on paved wet roads and paved dry roads.
I also believe it was implemented to allow the driver better control during hard braking, not necessarily quicker stopping distances (albeit a beneficial side effect).
Anyway ... you could argue the Rain and Dry performance along with the ABS primary use is it Control or Braking distance.
However I will not ever ever ever EVER say ABS is better in the Snow ... it sucks
I've also owned vehicles that would allow you to turn of the ABS IIRC <scratch head> was it my Pontiac GT or my Eagle Talon - can't remember.
edit ---
It's even worse on glare ice

I'm sure you figured someone would argue this point.

ABS from 20-30 yrs ago suck *****, for example some FC came with ABS, but it was so bad that most people removed that **** and swap it with regular brakes (not to mention the cost to replace/repair the pumps, and they are infamous for PUMP LEAKAGE!)
Now, ABS works 1 million times better, cuz the sensors and Computer speed is like 1000 times faster, so it actually works quite well, or the way it's intended to be. Some Race car kept the ABS on for a reason. and it's still improving.
it might still affect your driving tho, that's why there is a button for you to completely disable it.
For Snow or Ice ... No ABS will save you, get some Winter tires and/or chains/studs. LOL I tried it, without snow tires, u spin all the time and yell "holy batman" all the way, lol

press it once, DSC is off
Press and hold for 8 seconds, DSC AND TSC both off and stay that way until restart.
Just try it, press it just once and try to get your Rear to spin, you can't, that's when TSC kicks in.
Press and hold will turn it completely off. I used that so many times to get out of Snow, lol

hahahaha,
ABS just trying to help u to stop, it doesn't help if your tires just slip like a ****. All Season tires is such a joke, it's ok if it just a tiny bit of snow maybe 1 inch, anything more than that , good luck
I feel so stupid that I got a set 2 yrs ago when I have a set of Snow tires but, the lazy part of me told me "just get All Season, if it's just light snow u don't have to swap the tires"
then I found out All Season tires are worthless below 40 degrees, Which happens all the time during NYC Winter. Grrrr
ahh whatever, see if I have the dough to replace the All Season with Extreme Performance Summer this year.

NYCGPS,
I tapped the DSC off 4 times yesterday to spin up and kick out the rear around corners... Works just fine...
I wonder if perhaps there is a difference in the software from one year to the next that drives this confusion.

Also you can feel the difference dsc+tcs off in the canyons requires great driving skills or death will come.

Yes..
And there is also a change from this year or 2012 MY cars with the Disabling DSC...
I don't think you can 'Fully' turn it off..
And ABS...it is also illegal to now allow ABS to be turned off in Europe and Australia and I am pretty sure now NA.
ABS unit for a Series 2 $1823 retail (US)
ABS unit for a Series 1 $1850 retail (US) with DSC
ABS unit for a Series 1 $1395 retail (US) without DSC

I would think Mazda, with it's extensive racing heritage that encourages it's owners to race their cars on the track, wouldn't still provide a method to disable TCS/DSC.
ABS makes sense still. Have to pull the fuse in a S1 to disable that, and zero reason to.
I guess if it's "illegal to allow it to be turned off", does that mean that they have to run something else critical through the ABS fuse, so it has to be in place when the car is running?

Abs wise that's right... we still have our fuses though :p

I guess a manufacturer can't stop an owner removing a necessary fuse, one would think 'system' will record such an owner move to protect the maker....especially after the Toyota runaway accelerator non issues.
