Question Auto / AC climate control (extra consumption)

Ok ok... i admit this is probably a stupid post.
BUT, dont you all think..... when you press the "auto" button you get satisfaction thinking the car is going to do all the hard work for you and get it to the temperature you want.... and at the same time you know you are sacrafising the fuel consumption and peformance.
Someone put my mind at rest and just tell me its ok to have it turned on !! its almost become a Impulsive disorder for me to just not stop thinking exactly how much more fuel is that AC going to use and how much HP/ power im going to loose.
Aghhh
does anyone actually know how much less mpg you get with the ac on?

Thankyou for reading

Wink Now, now....

OOOh, you are really rubbing it in - we North Americans don't get AUTO on our climate control settings!

Living in hot, humid climes, my A/C (manually controlled) runs year-round, at least 80% of my driving. My gut feeling (not backed up with data) is that it costs zero in mileage (at least, compared with windows-open, wind-buffeting climate control).

One with the windows down , one with windows up using A/C ....... windows up got better milage , they had the cruise set , same weight on both trucks !!!!
