Ba Humbug. Poltergiest has control of my throttle
Been a while since I've been on.....and honely its because I've driven the car a whole 600 miles in the last two years. Had to many problems.
I tried to start the car up today cause I'm concidering cleaning it up....fixing a couple small things and possibly trading it off. Unless I can figure out what all the problems are. I seem to be best suited for the street rod world. I made a stab at the imports but I may just be too impatient. LOL's. First and formost....I'll be pulling off the Greddy turbo system. It seems to have multiplied all my problems.
04 RX8 Greddy turbo (Emanage) 6MT
I started the car. Admitidly the battery was low but it did start. Instantly the idle jumps to 2500 rpms and holds. I just ignored it and allowed the car to reach full operating temperature. Once the temperature was reached, I tried to give it some throttle. Nothing changed. Still 2500 holding. I gave it WOT and it slowly rose to a max of 3000 rpms. Hmmm. So I'm thinking maybe the weak battery had it on the fritz. So I shut it down. Pulled battery cable for a clear relearn, hooked it back up.....restart....same thing.
Any ideas?
I've done several searches looking for all the info I can get on TPS hoping its the culprit and I'm not finding much valid info. Also tried a search on net for "04 RX8 Throttle Position Sensor" and I'm not finding anything. I managed to get into a dealer site and had to do a "quote request" for the part. Does no-one make aftermarket sensors for these machines? The car has 32000 miles.
Thanks,
Dave

Your right....I shouldnt have posted yet. I'm waiting for an adapter for my Actron. Hope it will work. It been 4 years since I've even had a computer plugged into the Emanage so I beg forgiveness for ignorance. Can I find codes with in Emanage? I honestly cant remember. Seems like the last time I couldnt even get the laptop to talk to Emanage.
I'll submit codes when adapter get here.
Thanks

It would narrow down the problem area. I've seem similar behavior when my MAF sensor connection got ripped out of the sensor body. The car would still run but very very poorly and it took plenty of coaxing to get it to even start.
The throttle controls are a redundant backup design so a massive failure is possible but unlikely. There are 2 backups for that system in the car.
Starting with idle at 2500 is normal as the car's idle starts rather high when the coolant temperatures are low. As it warms it should settle down unless there's an issue with the MAF.
If there are MAF problems normally you would get a battery light and a CEL. Weird combo but I guess that's one of the signs.

Thanks. That makes sense. Since post I found the info on the dual TPS. It was dark, and hasnt been driven in a very long time so it would suprise me tomorrow, in daylight, if I find a field rat hasnt been munching on the wiring. I'm going to pm you. Unrelated to this condition.
