bad first gear stumble when dropping from second

At autox right now for the first time. Course is very techincal so i almost never leave 1st gear but in he sexond half of the course i am in second gear for about two seconds slow down plenty to drop into first around 6000rpm and when i hit the gas there is about a second or two were i feel stuck in mud before it kicks back to life. WTF!

It's not really designed to go into first gear while the car is moving... when you go to second gear leave it there.

Yeah thatz kind of what i figured. Its not a stumble, its fuel cutting... and i tried staying in 2nd and it cut again...

Solved the problem by unplugging the battery for a few minutes. In the first of my practice runs I was on adrenaline overload since it was my first autox and not paying attn to my RPMs and hit 10K fuel cut. I think the car was just trying to protect itself? because after I reconnected the battery I settled down, drove better without ever breaking 9K max and never had the problem again

Don't know much about cars (well, not compared to most of you guys), but that sounds about right. A failsafe put in by mazda to kill it if the throttle runs away.
