Question Base Auto Upgraded rear LSD/Rear Diff Question

Hello All,

Well I'm hoping I can get a answer and possible opinions on this.

I own a Base Model 04', this baby has no Traction Control or Stability Control nor a LSD. I've checked this a few times on other tech specs and well even according to the Mazda Corp Website I dont have the LSD. Right now I'm in the position to actually aquire a LSD from someone from another Rx8 with about 27k miles on her (mine has 51k right now btw).

I'm just curious is a swap possible, if possible what do I need to get as in what should I tell the guy to make sure to rip out of the other Rx8 and give to me. Also is this a possible "driveway install" or should I bring this to a professional shop to install (I aint bringing this to a dealer OH HELLZ NO!). What improvements will I see right away from this install? And um thats all I hope someone can help me out

are you changing the whole rear differential or just pulling the LSD?

Staticlag I'll be changing out the entire thing (or so my hope is). When I had my exhaust swapped and had the Borla put in I noticed a HUGE difference in the case size from mine to the other Rx8 (which was a GT).

Ray I'll definatly be keeping you in mind but will depend on what the Governement decides to send me via both Taxes and um their "Stimulus Package" bonus . Hmm, yanno if I do, do this I might try/attempt to get a install meet together since I know a few people in our New England area who had some interest in a Nitrous kit installed by "The Master". That and would defray cost of dragging your *** on up here

Oh and what performance gains should I expect outa this btw? I have a feeling of what but I'd like them confirmed if you will

Just so Ray doesnt think your picking this up at the junkyard its a rear end coming from me

I imagine if Ray came to help with it there wouldn't be too many obstacles that couldn't be solved without difficulty.

Clavius- are you trying to install everything including DSC system and whatnot?

I dont care to have the dsc installed in the car unless the wires are already there and will only need to be hooked up (heard all our cars regardless of model/options are all prewired). I like knowing I'm in complete control of the car and any mess up is because of me.

To my knowledge Ray our Final Drive is the same as the M/T. Eventually I plan on some form of Power Adder so this is another step in that direction.

I just need to get my W-2's in and find out if all this is possible or if I'm living in another pipe dream reality of mine but I hope I'm not

i just went into the parts manual.. the housing and the gear are the same part #. for some reason i was thinking that the gear was a 4.10 in the auto..

but i think that is just the 4.44 with the overdrive in the auto..

I heard our um.. "Bonus" from the government is supposed to come down in June/July (our fast track government at work UGH!) last night so that puts a kink in my plans. That and instead of a Rumored $800 for single people its now $600. I'm hoping my W-2's come in sooner rather than later since this year they are coming in very late usualy I would of filed already and just be waiting for the autopay to my acc.

And Ray I'll be the Bonehead trust me on this haha. I remembered I have a friend who would possibly be able to get me a garage/garage bay if this would to actually happen (right now treating this as a as-if till taxes are done). That and be a decent spot for a meet.

Interesting that the housing # is the same since again when I remember seeing my car up on the lift then seeing the other car it was to me night and day. Mine just seemed smaller, I'll see if I still have pictures on my photobucket of that install.

Swoope on the speed sensor I'd assume that is for our luvly 124mph cut off. Hmm.. well like any thread Ray pops in everything goes off topic but still in the same vein of it all (haha), I and other auto owners are lead to believe that the 124mph cut off is PC controled now if we where to either cut/disconnect that wire would it be possible to go faster than 124mph? Some claim we dont have this cut off but I beg to differ since I've hit the wall a few times, just dies if you will and after a few um "moments" it picks back up. Love long open VT highways with a clear view of a mile or more of open road.

Anyways.. G3tR if you have a buyer lined up besides me let them have it since you seem to be having a steady supply of cars as of late to pick apart. That and I still need to run this by the wifey (figuritivly of course lol), buying a house comes first but right now its a week to week deal. One week we are buying a house for sure the next its "lets wait.." ugh.. must be a woman thing.

I think he was pointing out that the two LSD equipped cars, auto and manual, are the same. Yours being a non-LSD of course it would be smaller. He was just clarifying that both drivelines use the same LSD so there was no difference which car the LSD came from on my end.

nope,

the part # for the housing and gear for the non lsd and lsd are the same.. i found that odd also.. that is why the pic would be handy..

Sorry about reviving a super old thread- but,

Im thinking about dropping in the LSD and carbon fiber driveshaft from a manual S1 rx8 in place of my open S1 differential/shaft.

To clarify,
This involves pulling both units off with a series of bolts and it should be a clean and easy swap, correct?
No wiring involved, etc?
I haven't seen anyone do this except for you, so you can see my concern.
