Before I take it in to the dealer... (power loss/noise)

95% of the time my car is fine. (2005 GT)

When I have power loss, I get a knocking sound higher than 6K RPM.
I tend to get the power loss more often during hotter days. (25C+)

Can fuel starvation from an overheating fuel pump cause that sound?

I recent have changed out coils/wires/plugs.

Should I try getting the fuel pump replaced first or straight off ask for a compression test.

Thanks

try to make a long and sharp left corner with maybe 1/4 tank of gas.

if your car bogs down, its your fuel pump.

if it doesnt, then its probably your engine.

The noise you are hearing sounds like detonation on a Rotary engine. It's what people on here call MIAC(Marbles In A Can) or some call it marbles in a blender sound. Are you using reg-87oct or prem-91+oct fuel? I had the same problem before and the dealer did the de-carbon cleaning and fixed it. I could use reg-87oct again but after a few thousand miles it came back and I had to use prem-91oct again. It's worse on HOT days. If you are using prem-gas and are still having loss of power and MIAC sound, which by the way is bad for the engine. You need the TSB done and hope it helps.....here is a copy of the TSB to bring to the dealer.

Yes, I"m up to date on the recalls. I also always use 91 octane gas.

the fuel pump is more like a on off switch.. it is good or bad. and sometimes it is bad, but it cools down and is good again..

i can say i have a bit of knowledge with this..

what you describe is more like dry apex seals..

the reason i asked about the last recall was they tend to do a vacuum test..

if you are still under warranty. and this is covered by the 8 year 100k mile one in the usa.. i think it is the same in canada, eh.

take to the dealer, say the car has a loss of power. that likely will get you a vacuum test and a compression test. if it fails, and it likely will with what you describe.

you get a carbon cleaning and retest.. that might fix the issue..

if not new motor time..

btw, if under warranty dont let them try the diagnostic fee crap..
