Really depends on how much your trying to spend. I suggest window tint, clear corners, lowering springs, exhaust, LED bulbs.

Do a search for the airbox mod in the DIY. It consists of taking out 2 panels by removing 2 screws and removing one of the 2 screens. The best part is it's free. Some people say they can hear and feel a difference.

welcome to the addiction!!

Start with the little stuff, that's what I did.
- Clear corners
- AC Screen / Oil Cooler screens. This one is always forgotten by people but it'll protect those parts of your car from evil rocks. (if a rock takes out the AC condenser or OIl coolers, it's not covered by warranty)

- Exhaust / Intake is always a great way to start the 'performance' mods. I went with Racing Beat, exceptional quality, not too loud but gives the car a great tone.

You must have gone to public school in Las Vegas since you apparently have no grasp of the english language

why would your FIRST recommendation be this since the OP specifially mentioned:

As a starting point to his mods, you recommend an AP?! Ray, you gotta get out of that AZ sun, it's killin' off too many brain cells.
The AP is a great tool but I doubt it really needs to be where people START with mods on their vehicles. This is a great car as-is, let the guy enjoy his car for a while and then address PCM tuning.
Sure it has a few features that could help prolonge the RX-8 but MANY of us went 50,000 miles + before going with any tuning.

Isn't there still a wait list for these?

depending on where the OP lives, this could be a bad idea. Some places are VERY strict when it comes to removing the CAT. For example: In CA, the authorities have the legal right to tow your vehicle and impound it for 30 days if you remove the Federally Mandated Catalytic Converter.

Finally a recommendation that makes sense. which ones does BHR recommend?
Are the AP bars still on back order or are they available?

when the OP said, "I just got my RX8", you better hope he meant "I just got a used RX-8 or your recommendation of buying new brake pads would be a pretty stupid one.

Lowering springs are a great mod but unlike BHR, I typically only recommend people do this with the knowledge that a stiffer spring will definitely reduce the life of the OEM stut. Why not replace the struts while you're at it, that would make more sense

Negative Ghost Rider.
Flywheels aren't for most people as they won't see the 'performance' gains from them that they envision. Again, this guy is just starting to mod his 8, no reason to address the flywheel this early on.

If he gets the AP this isn't really necessary.

SOME intake are a total waste of money, others are designed much better and should provide benefits to the vehicle as giving it more cold air then the OEM.

Only one of THE BEST mods for an RX-8 (assuming it's a M/T as all good RX-8's should be)
Axial Flow Short Shifter.

I don't know about these "BHR" guys some times...

To the original poster.. Jedi and CRH are actually really nice guys. Jedi was on a time out recently and this is how Charles show's his man-love for him.

The one mod I would recommend if you have a manual transmission is the axial flow short shifter. It makes the feel of the car so much better it's a shame it isnt stock in the car. After that it's basically whatever you'd like to do. If you just want cosmetic changes you can do something as cheap as 5 bucks (leds) to super expensive (high end body kit 5k+ without paint).

If you want sound and fury then intakes and exhausts are always good..

basically start searching the DIY forum and the tech garage.. you'll find lots of ideas and pictures.

4) Catless midpipe.

9) Sohn OMP Adapter as this allows you to inject higher-quality 2-stoke oil.
10) The factory clutch is fine up to about 325 h.p. so leave it. BHR should have our lightweight clutch system sorted out by the time you do need one.
11) Intakes don't tend to derive their supposed h.p. increases via improved airflow so that tends to be a waste of money, too, unless you like intake noise.
12) Cat-backs also tend not to provide better exhaust flow but the issue is subjective anyway when it comes to sound.

What have I missed?

That occurred to me last night and most of us get 245/40-18s on the stock wheels if we don't yet want new wheels.

My advice shouldn't be followed anyway.

You forgot the reinforced clutch pedal Charles.
To the OP:
a good "optimized stock" rx8 could be like this in my opinion: catless midpipe or high flow catalyzer; upgraded ignition ; "modded" airbox with a washable air filter (this saves you some bucks on the long term) ; springs for the suspension compartment for sways might cause you problems if you live near uneven roads or wet\icy roads if you don't know what you're doing ; reinforced clutch pedal and an accessPORT to complete the tune-up.
