The higher you can get it off the ground the better, and all 4 wheels off the ground is definitely optimal. You will need room to get leverage to break loose some of the bolts, as it sounds like the cat has not been taken off before.

a bar you stick on the end of your wrench to get more leverage. Learycd if you are doing the swap with a friend and a bolt gets stuck you can have them hold the end of the socket on the bolt straight, then you apply pressure with your foot to loosen it (slowly lol so you don't kick him)

yeah i def worry about 2 tons on top of my head....
have a buddy helping me out so i think we can manage these bolts. i may be able to get access to a lift, but idk how likely that is

also i like the 6 jack stands idea! otherwise take off the rims and put them under the sides of the car. yes if the car falls it will scratch them but its better than being killed

Did mine this week, lifted the back with 2 jack stands, and kept the jack just in front of and under the rear diff in case of emergency. Turned out fine but broke 2 bolts trying to take them out, no big deal autozone was open
goodluck
