BHR Coil Discussion/ D585 Coils
This may be something new, or not but a replacement coil for my BHR ignition kit (which failed at 5k miles), which was sent directly from BHR is a made in China Spectra unit, $20 on amazon.

My initial post in the other thread was not intended by me to question Charles' business practices or personality, though I partook in doing so. I was in a state of frustration with misfire issues, my rex down for over two weeks, a problem filled weekend, and a diagnosis of a peace-of-mind upgrade defected. After being stonewalled when seeking answers through emails I OP'd out of curiosity and to inform consumers. It is evident that there are many satisfied customers of BHR, from a group of exacting rotary owners no less! I believe in the message and purpose driving Black Halo Racing and mean no defamation.
I apologize for all negative feelings to Charles and the community.
The RX will be up and screaming soon.

The irony here, Scott, is that the Spectra coils are the best I have had yet and I have a great line of communication with them on quality control. "ktec" seems to have an issue understanding that nothing is perfect and his coil failure at 5K miles in an anomaly. Yet, he surely loves his cell phone.......

So you have nothing relevant or substantial to add but a silly rhetorical question.
I don't see BHR directly being involved with slave labor but instead deceit by touting Chinese sub-standard coils (possibly made with slave labor) as OEM and making a killing off the mark-up.
Take a look into what happened to Delphi over the past several years and how that has affected the AC Delco line of products. Than ask yourself why Delphi needs to place this attachment on their website (anyone who merely watches "Shark Tank" can answer why);

Brother, through your defensive tone in all the emails and your attempt to mock me when I simply stated a fact and posted a picture of your replacement coil it has become very clear you are uncomfortable about some of your business practices. Why have you consistently failed to address direct questions and concerns about the quality of the kit; typically resorting to saying how Mazda's coil are even worse than yours and pointing fingers.

Well my BHR kit is 7 years old and I have never had a problem (as well as just about every single SARX member over the past 10 years) so where the coils are made is of little concern to me. I never assumed he actually manufactured the coils himself because it is ridiculous for anyone to assume that his company does actually manufacture the coils.
As for the mark up, well it doesn't take a genius to look up what a D585 coil goes for so I'm not sure why you are upset about that. The BHR ignition kit is the sum of its parts and the company that stands behind those parts. That is what you are paying for. If you wanted the cheapest route and no warranty then you should have made your own bracket and bought four D585 coils and a wiring harness off of Ebay.
But I am sure you don't own anything else that was made in China (possibly with slave labor) right? I always find it funny how people can fawn over a cell that is made in China but then assume anything else made in China is crap.

iPhones are made in China and they are not crap by any standard, though I do not agree with with labor practices.

Every part has a failure rate. The fact is you had a coil fail and it was replaced so I'm not sure what else you expect.

My BHR coils are a few years old (forget, but more than 2) and work great. I put a lot of full-throttle, 9000 RPM road course time on them. Saw my first flashing CEL on-track this Summer since I installed them, but only once.

I get why you are/were upset with the failed coil in the first place.
I get why you also may have certain feelings about the situation at-hand.
What I do not understand is what my initial reaction to your warranty inquiry and concern was expected to be. I offered two alternatives as solutions to the matter, and they are the same alternatives I offer anyone with a suspected coil failure.
The "killing off the mark up" is what I use to be sure that BHR will be around in the long-term for it's customers whenever they may be ANY issues with their RX-8s (as does Apple with their iPhones), whether related to my products or not. There are hundreds of people here who can attest to the extra-curricular services and favors I have provided simply because my customers are gracious enough to trust me and allow me to earn a full-time living in this community.
As far as "defensiveness" or any other characterization of our conversation, that can work both ways but I prefer to not get into that here. There used to be a day, but no longer.
Also, everyone please keep in mind that I have around 6,000 ignition systems (24K coils) in the field and add 60-100 new systems every month. Thus, even with the industry standard Tier One Supplier failure rate of 1%, it is something I must accept in seeing potentially 240 bad coils thus far (which may be distributed with only one errant coil per ignition system) and 3-4 new bad coils per month. I hate seeing coils fail as much as anyone and I do lose sleep over it but 1% error is as good as it gets and I am simply moving enough volume that I must deal with it. Add to this the fact that I extend the warranty term beyond that of my coil supplier.
As I have stated elsewhere, if other coils prove to be better and worth the added expense and so forth, cool for everyone who wants them and BHR will gladly step aside and develop something else to offer. Simple as that. :-)

If Charles stands behind his products, which he does, what difference does it makes what coils he uses or where they are made?
My BHR ignition is around 3 years old, and I track it 12-15 times per year. I had a minor intermittent problem with one coil a few months ago, that I was only able to find by swapping each coil with a new one. When I asked Charles if he would sell me a single coil that I could use to rule out the coils as the problem or to identify the weak one, he sent me a scratched coil for free and even paid the shipping. The coil that turned out to be bad actually passed an HEI spark test.
It is because of that level of customer service that I continue to be a BHR customer and look at his site first when I need things. He is definitely one of the good guys.
