Brake screeching HELP!!!
I have a 2004 rx-8, it has a little less than 15K miles on it, my brakes keep squeeling, I went to the dealership at around 12,500 miles and they told me they could not do anything since it was over 12K miles, what do I do, the noise is driving me nuts and the people next to me. Please help

go to this link, and print it out

if your dealership gives you a hard time, either bump it up the chain, or find another dealership.
i had this same problem with my 04 at about 9k, took it to the closest dealer and they told me they couldnt even duplicate the problem.
i move, and needed to get an oil change, took the tsb to my dealer, they said ok, no problem.
here is a link to just about all the tsb's for the 8,
http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ins_index.html
i had 3 of to take care of, seat backs on my gt, brakes, and grommets on the engine cover, plus some warranty work, and an oil change. took 3 days to get everything done, but ended up getting the oil change for free.
i also go in next thursday to get the big heat recall taken care of (haha, my car gets to be the guinee pig as mine is the first one they are doing, but they are also having their master mechanic do the work)
one thing you will notice about the new pads is that they have a better formulation, and are much cleaner when it comes to the brake dust, after 1 day on the old ones, i would have nasty amounts of brake dust on the front wheels, now i have 2 weeks on the new ones, with over 1200 miles, and they are less than 1/2 as dirty as the old pads were after a day

mine started at 8k, and i got em fixed at 17k
easy way to check if it is the rears or fronts, durning light traffic on the highway, get up to speed and apply (very sparingly, dont yank it) your ebrake and see if you get the squeel. if no squeel, then it is your front brakes

yes thats teh fan running two things. no wait 3 things
1. let the fan run its doing its job!!
3. read your manual.
C. if you cant tell the difference between the fan running and the engine running there are bigger issues we need to tackle here

I had the brake pad TSB done at around 10K miles. The squealing went away for a few hundred miles, then came back - though not as bad as before.

Where do you think brake dust comes from?

Someone wanna help correlate what brake fluid level has to do with the production of brake dust?
Ah, I have it. The more brake fluid you have in the hydraulic system the higher the pressure. Therefore, the pads grip the rotors more tightly and result in higher friction and temperatures. Thusly, more dust is produced. Conversely, if I have no brake fluid in the system the pads don't ever touch the rotors and, voila, no dust.

I found that TSB that was mentioned in this thread. Unfortunately, my VIN number is too high.
When I mentioned the squeal to my dealership the last time I brought it in, they said that they would look at it. That evening, when we went to pick her up, they said, "Uhm, we didn't hear any brake squeal at all". Yah, right. Oh, and by the way, there was only 1 mile more on the trip meter than when we brought her in.
And it *still* squeals, every damn time we come to a stop. We were told, by the service department, that it's because of the type of pads that are used. Something about being metallic or something like that.
Seriously thinking of replacing them with something else.

But be aware that people are taking your statements seriously and offering your suggestions to others.
On the small chance you're being truthful and serious, I'm going to repeat that if your brake fluid was nearly empty, you might have a serious problem which could cause your brakes to fail. Brake fluid doesn't get used up like oil and fuel, at least not at a rate it's filled one day, gone the next. Either you had your fluid changed and the tech didn't replace it properly, or you have a leak. If you have a leak, you're going to crash.

Holy Fkn Sht! How in God's name.....

Of course, it would get rid of your car too (and driver) too.
