Brake Squeak

Hey guys, I've now had my car for 8 months, I bought it used - 04 Nord Green RX8, only has 17k miles, and whenever I brake I hear this wretched squeak. I cant pinpoint where its coming from besides that it happens when I brake. Always. It's gotten to the point where I've taken it to Galipen Mazda out here in So Cali and they did an entire brake inspection; they found nothing. STAR Mazda, here in So Cali again, said that they probably will never stop squeaking because of how Mazda made the brakes - metal on metal or something. Can ANYONE please verify what they told me and if possible give me some suggestions on how to fix this damned squeak!

Any at all responses pertaining to my question(s) are greatly appreciated - thanks!

-Josh

yeah RX-8 brake pads do tend to squeak easily, it's the high performance material they used in the pads that mainly causes it

you can try some aftermarket pads that may give you a quieter ride at the cost of lowered braking performance. personally i use some of those little packets of brake grease to lube all the contact surfaces between the caliper and the pads, and they have worked quite well to reduce the squeak. the squeak is still there sometimes, but it has been reduced dramatically

i see you have an '04, have you checked your car's service record to see if the brake TSB has been done on your car? mazda did come out with an updated brake pad that also reduced squeaks quite a bit

though now that you're at 17k, i'm not sure if brakes are still covered under warranty since it is a 'wear item'

they won't be covered, unless your dealership is awesome. Mine was under 12,000 miles but it was after the one year in service date (by 1.5 months...bastards.)

TSB is technical service bulletin, they are slight problems that mazda knows about and then leaves it up to the dealers if they want to repair it or not. the brake tsb has a 12,000 mi or 1 year limit, as in, it needs to be performed within that time. Some dealers will do it afterwards, others will fight with you and not do it at all.

i have no idea, i just use the little packet of grease they sell at the Advance Auto checkout counter

actually, if you buy the brake pad kit from Mazda dealer parts department, the kit also comes with a small packet of brake grease, i just didn't bother using them lol
