Brakes Squeaking?
Anyone else have this problem? I took it to the dealership and they said that its normal because they are ceramic, and it could be just brake dust.... Any ideas or are they not being honest....only 16000 miles

tsb about the squeaky brakes. print that out, take it in, and if your car is within the vin range, you get new brakes that should squeal less.

I also had the same problem...had the TSB and got new brakes and rotors. It has now been 4 months since I had this done and the squeal has come back. My wife is the warranty service writer at the local dealership and told me that they would not replace the second set of brake pads and that it would have to come out of our pocket. Kinda sux, if you ask me!

It is completely annoying, and I'm tempted to change out the pads myself just to get rid of the squealing. I've been told that ceramic pads, because they are not metalic, do not squeal. Anybody feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

If you make a couple hard stops it cures the problem for a little while. What is happening is you are glazing up the pads with soft stops, and when you apply the brakes hard on a back road or some place when no one is around, you eat that glazed part of the pad off. Make a couple hard stops say from 50mph to 10mph without stopping completely and see if that cures it for a while. It does mine. Too much city driving.

Read about bedding your brakes........
If you do it it will stop squeeling....until it wears through the transfer layer again.
Re-bed them when it starts again.
If you want to hear squeeling...put in a set of high temp pads, and drive them on the street. They are designed to work at high temps...at low temps they are actually really abrasive...and wear off the transfer layer( and rotors). Squeel like crazy until they are hot :D

I'd rather have squeely brakes that stop great...than poorer compound brakes that don't :D
Brakes are always a compromize.......quiet, low dust = less efficient usually.
Usually pads that don't dust are eating your rotors............
