Break light indicator comes on ?

Hey all !!!

So recently my parking brake light started coming on during hard acceleration. Now it comes on even during normal acceleration. Any ideas? I did a search and didnt see anything.

Thanks!

P.S. yes I spelled it wrong just to mess with you.....

Have you checked the brake fluid level? Have to ask.

Yeah it didnt look to low, it was a little below the full line but I didnt think it looked low enough to be a issue. But I will relook just to be sure, is there a sensor on the resivour? I didnt see one.

Ah yeah thats right I remember seeing that now, sorry its been a few daze since I looked. I ll double check but I dont think its low enough to expose the sensor when accelerating.

I had that happen the first time I ran a 1/4 mile.
Ran good, hit 98 Mph, then the anti lock brake light went crazy when I hit the brakes on the far side of the traps.

same here, i am also having this same problem....when i accelerate hard the brake light comes on and stays on and then will randomly turn off and then will turn on again during another hard acceleration....whats up with the sensor?? i looked at my brake fluid and it seemed to be right in the middle..

so i took the car to dealer and they said that the reason the light was coming on was because the break pads were so low that it was causing the break fluid to become low and that caused the light to come on....sounds like bs to me but i knew i needed pads any way and bought some. the light has remained off but i don't know if it was because of the pads or something else that they did.

the light was on because you had low brake fluid. The less brake pad you have the more fluid it takes. So since your brake pads were almost gone, your brake fluid was low.

Yep - that's the way it works. Which is a good reason to not routinely top off brake fluid. This gives you an informal "low pad" indicator. I don't know if they design it that way or not, but this happened on my wife's Camry just as the pads reached the replacement point.

Fortunately it didn't get a small leak, resulting in a serious accident due to insufficient fluid rather than hitting the squeal indicator common to almost all street brake bads

in otherwords, be careful who you listen to for sound advice ...

Hmmm...the way I phrased that does look a little wierd. Let me clarify...

When I got the light on the Camry, the fluid was still safely above the minimum mark; probably midway between the min and max marks. The light was intermittent...but I obviously checked everything (pad thickness, possible leaks) when it happened.

The pads were still clear of the wear indicators, and probably would have passed inspection. But they were down enough to be worth replacing.

As long as brake fluid is above minumum, I don't top it off since the added fluid then has to be drained when the pads are replaced. I thought it was pretty neat that the level sensor started to flash at that point.

I wonder if they size reservoirs such that the volume between max and min matches the volume change in the caliper pistons between fresh and worn pads.
