A/C on ????

A/C on ????
Has your A/C goes on eventhough you are not using it? After driving home I noticed that my car was dripping some sort of liquid around the tranny. I put a pan and it turned out to be water condesation. I thought that the engine was leaking coolant between the rotors. I check the hood and I noticed that the low side of the A/C line had moistrure on it as I used the A/C eventhough I have my vent and A/C completely off. Any thoughts? Ambient temp was 71 F and cloudy.
Thanks

If you have the air control on pretty much anything other than just face-air (ie: floor or defrost) the ac will be on regardless of if you turned it on or not.
The owners manual details when the a/c is turned on and includes defrost, floor and bi-level settings I believe.

yeah,,,i just got done doing an oil change and found my ac hoses were cold even though i had the controls on medium heat and floor. it sure would be nice to have more manual control..
i understand the L flash changes some of the settings but not sure of the details..
any experience out there?

Thanks guys for the info. This morning when I started my car I noticed that my vent fan was in 1 and with the bi mode of windshield and floor. No wonder when I was warming up my car I kept hearing the A/C compressor turning on and off. Once at work I found the same thing. Low side of the A/C line cold with a lot of water condensation. I will set the clontrol mode to face-air when I go home after work to see if that stops it.

I think AC is designed to be on for some of the settings you guys mentioned aboved from the get go. Mazda addressed this "mysterious" AC on issue with the L flash which now WILL indicate on the console when the AC is on. Here's one of the observation MazdaManiac found:
from this thread:

I think he just noticed now it because he now sees the AC light on.
Third, the A/C compressor now kicks in when the ventillation controls are set to defrost. It should have always been this way, but it wasn't the case with my original programming.

I totally missed that relationship. If enough people who had the L reflashed can confirm that observation, i.e. A/C light on at defrost mode that will show you another way to verify if you have the latest calibration (at least from the “L” version) besides from taping the brakes 20 times and clearing your “block learn” optimum settings…. by the way, I am still driving my 8 with an earlier calibration.
Good observation Smoker!

On my drive home I change my vent mode to face-air and the speed setting to one. Once I got home I checked the A/C lines and there were dry and hot. So, without shutting down the engine I chaged the defrost and floor mode and I was able to see the A/C compressor clutch engaging and the lines started to get cold. I checked the A/C light and it was off. Thank you guys again for help me out with this mistery. Anyone with the L calibration flashed was able to confirm my theory that I mentioned earlier?

I have an early build (05/03) which got the L reflash last week.
The only time the AC indicator (either the light on the button, or the little indicator on the display) comes on is when the AC button is pressed. If the AC is running incidentally because of defrost, bi-level or floor settings are chosen, the indicators do not light up on my car.

Same with mine ("L" flash confirmed with brake pedal test).

I seem to be getting a lot of humidity on the windshield on the inside after I drive my car and leave it sit for about half hour..If I restart the window fogs up real bad for a few minutes, and then clears. Does anyone else find that?? It could be the A/C, or worse a heater core leak?? Don't seem to be low on coolant though. Any Ideas????

so, the water dripping from the A/C is normal then? i just ran the A/C a bit today and noticed some cold water dripping from the engine bay as i was parking. but, i've never noticed it before... :

thanks for the reply cgps... i checked and i think it's water. it was cold to the touch without any texture or weight, and i used a tissue to check the color and it's clear. i think oil would've had some color & texture and would've been hot to the touch. i won't worry about the drips then. thanks again for your help.
