Based on what most dealers charge for Labor that doesn't seem too bad.

It is just a can of cleaner sprayed through the cowl vent to contact the evap and removed debri and smell. If you have a cabin filter there should be no debri. the smell is caused by mold that forms on the Evaporator coil.

Cheap fix - Lysol

Slightly less cheap - "Frigi-Fresh"

Once you've sanitized your evaporator coil, you can help prevent future mold by practicing "moisture management".

Any evap coil will accumulate some dust. Dust + water = mold. Anytime you use the AC, turn it off (but keep the fan running) a few minutes before you finish driving. The airflow will help dry the condensation off the evaporator so it doesn't contribute to mold growth.

Evap smell

Hey bmwnrp1, The evaperator core is inbetween the glove box front and the firewall. What was your complaint at the dealership?

Fridgie-fresh is a great product, but Lysol spray, or any surface discenfectant works just as well. No more than a third of a can!!! Do it with the engine running, AC on full blast, and the windows open. Spray it in the vents located outside the car just under the wiperblades. $119.00 vs. one third of $3.99!!! You make the choice. Drop by my house and I'll do it for fifty bucks, and you won't be without your ridefor a day or so!!! lol.

found Frigi-Clean and Frigi-Fresh here from other forums. www.AC-Evaporator-Cleaner.com Hope I saved everyone 30 minutes of searching. My dealer would not sell to me the Frigi-Fresh and Frigi-Clean cans... I had to buy their entire service

Clean it with Lysol. It will smell for a few more days, but it will eventually take care of the mold and fungus.
