They can be rebuilt. If you had bought a rebuilt one, they would have wanted the old one back as part of the deal...and charged you if you didn't have one.

You might look up prices on rebuilts, and see what the core charges are, to see what the value is. Don't know if rebuilders would actually buy one, though.

Its cheap and easy to rebuild a master cylinder. That's if you know how.

You'd have to find a rebuilder. Try asking your local parts store where they get their rebuilt brake stuff from, and chase it down from there. Also ask what the core deposit is if someone were to buy a rebuilt - that will tell you how much it could be worth.

It's been a long while since I bought a master cylinder. Core charge may be something like $10 to $20, iirc. You might have problem finding a parts store that would want to bother taking it. May be more hassle than they want to deal with. They're really not set up for that transaction. Normally they charge someone the core charge when they buy the new part. Then the owner can bring back the old part and get the core charge refunded. The old part goes to the factory to be rebuilt. Since you're only doing half the transaction, they might balk. But might be worth asking at your regular parts store.
