Can still fix or new engine???
Whats up people. I'm new here and I was searching a lot on the threads to see if anything can relate to my problem. I fall on the long starts, engine stall, low compression category, but I believe I can't save my engine. Brought my car for diagnoses the other day and had bad results. Tech says I need a new engine. Here's the problem with my car so get ready: (2004 rx8, 77k miles)
Long starts on hot weather, loses power on uphill, engine sometimes stalls at 20-25 mph, shakes on stoplights, has died a couple of times, burns gas like crazy.
Tech says carbon build up and the compression on the engine manifold vacuum is really low(11-12hg) at 2-4k rpm. I understand that its way below normal. Is it possible to save my engine? I was looking at the seafoam job if that will help it. I got new coils and a new starter on it 2 months back. Still need to change the plugs n wires though. I'm looking towards the new engine deal but I'm out of warranty dealer says and it will cost me $6800 out my pocket for a new engine. Please comment. Thanks

the engine warranty is 8 years or 100K miles. whicever comes first.
You can always check to see if your engine core warranty is still there by calling MNAO.
Another thing is, 6800 bux for Mazda Reman installed ? no thx.
a Mazda reman is a hit or miss, if it's good build it will last you a long time, but there were horror stories about a Mazda reman that has 0 compression(probably slip the wrong side seals into the grooves or forgot to put a spring)
for the record, a Mazda reman cost around 2K + your core.
If you want a Good rebuild you can try Mazmart, it will cost more than Mazda Reman, but Mazmart's rebuild is probably the best money can buy right now. probably in the 4K+ range, but if you want something that last then that's the way to go. located in GA.
there are also other rotary engine rebuilds with good skills, one of them is Rotary Resurrection's *Kevin*, if you live near TN that's your choice. cost totally based on "what you wanna do."
as for install, most shop should be able to remove/install it for around 1K or less.
*ok, I just saw your 2nd post*, you bought it in 2005? you mean you bought it new in 2005 or you got it used in 2005? if you got it new in 2005 then ur engine warranty is still there, but if you got it used in 2005 and it's a model made and sold in 2003 then you're SOL. again, check with MNAO.
if you're lucky ur engine core warranty its actually still there, SOME dealership might try to hit you hard with other bullshit like "oh you need to PAY for a new water pump and whatever crap in order to get the warranty done" , tell them that's horse ****, but honestly you should change ur water pump around 60K miles and other crap. so just get the list and buy whatever crap they said from Mazmart, throw it at them and say DO MY FUXKING WARRANTY WORK.

Thanks for the advise. I bought the car used at 11k miles. The first owner bought the car in 2003. I just got off the phone with mazda and guess what? The warranty just expired 2 weeks ago. Super bad luck for me. So I should change the water pump? Should I try the seafoam job to atleast push up the compression?

if the engine stalls like that then I think the side seal is having serious issue, which is common in earlier build (Mazda somehow updated the part and the problems seems to happen less often), u can try Seafoam, or start premixing, but I doubt it will help any/much
time to save up for a rebuild, a Mazda reman cost around 2K + ur core

Cool. I just found out that you can get reimburstment if you spent money on your engine so I'm going to 2 mazda service shops tomorrow where I got my car serviced at and getting all my service records because they could have prevented this from happening. I had the car diagnosed twice before the warranty was over and they somehow never told me about the compression problem. So I'm on their *** tomorrow. Lol
