Car battery dead?

Ok so when i got the car the battery was dead so i went out and bought a brand new one from canadian tire. I put it into the car and bomb the r8 is back in performance mode. So i order some HID kits and install them on my car. my lowbeams where already HID so just did a bulb Swap. and converted the fog lights to HID. All was fine untill i went on vacation for 3days so basicly the car was not used for a grand total of 7days. I get back from the trip and the new battery is dead again... Could this be because of my install of the fogs? Not sure what to check first and need some info plz

i used

It is a combination of both. I don't know how the cold cranking amps of your replacement battery compares with the OEM one. and You are drawing more from the battery now. The RX8 battery will drain down without regular use, especially if you live in a cold climate. The security system, clock et all will drain it down if it is not your daily driver. I know i had the same problem when the car sat for days at a time. Charged the battery a few times, and that worked. Eventually Mazda replaced the battery under warranty with a pro-rated discount. But now that it is my daily driver, I have no more battery drain problem. Hey do you ever run the sound system or power the seats and windows without the car running, or with the engine just idling ? That will drain the charge down also. The battery needs to be higher capacity for sure.

Get yourself a good battery charger and that should help bring back a new battery just fine.

Yep, dark current.
But also check the passthrough and make sure your trunk light isn't on.
A bad switch back there has been known to cause this as well.

They are right about the trunk light. Also If you have the latest keyless entry system it is easy to accidentally hit the "open trunk" button on your wireless key. That will keep the trunk light on and drain the battery. I once did this and by accident left the car for days with the trunk lid slightly popped open, and came back to a dead battery.

Don't quote me on this but I think the dark current load is supposed to be ~50mA.

??????? Well, if you open the trunk, then yeah......the trunk light will come on.

We wanted you to close the trunk and then look through the passthrough between the seats and see if it was on...............if the trunk is closed, then it should not be one.
