Car idles at 800 rpm

Hello all,

After about 8000 miles on my 8, it now idles at 800 rpm when fully warmed up instead of 1k like before. I don't have any performance mods on it. Is this a problem? Should I bring it to the dealer?

the engine is supposed to idle between 750 and 950. so you are just fine.

Oh alright, I thought I remembered it idling at 1k rpm before. Thanks for the fast response!

Well it will hover around 1k for a couple seconds before you stop, but then settle down to what Zoom said above. The hover is it's way of being prepared incase you are about to take off before coming to a complete stop.

Too bad it doesn't stay at 1K. My idle feels significantly smoother at the brief 1K dwell than it does settled down at 800.

Can you feel vibration in the cabin?

Slight vibration, yes... mainly through the steering wheel. I guess 'significantly smoother' may not be the best way to put it. There is enough difference in vibration between 800 and 1K that I can feel it, but just barely.

Mine idles at 800 too. It feels quite ok at 800, only very slight viberations. Although I do have an automatic.
