Car smoking
my car has the greddy turbo kit so i dont know if the turbo is bad or not. when i drive it its fine but after driving it for 15 min i come to a stop and 5 sec later it will smoke almost like the car is on fire. has anyone had this problem. please help.

Rebuilding a turbo is not that hard. Let's first determine where the smoke is coming from before we start ripping things apart. Diagnosis of the issue is key to any repair job performed correctly.

Its not blue smoke and it is coming from the exhaust. if i turn the car off then let it sit for a bit like ten min its ok again. i think that if it was coming from the engine like a bad oil seal from the motor then it would smoke all the time. i dont know if thats correct or not. i dont have any cats on the car so before it starts to smoke i get a real bad smell then the smoke starts. if i start to drive at any speed slow or fast it goes away but when i stop it starts agian untill i turn it off. the color off the smoke is black.

before all the smoking started i did a oil change on the car and i over filled it by a quarter quart of oil to much and drove it that way home, but when i started the car the first time to check the oil i let it warm up, and 30 sec later it started smoking really bad. the next day i drove it to work and drained the oil and got it to the correct level, but i have driven the car two days know and it is still smoking.

did this smoking just start to occur right after the turbo was installed?...black smoke usually equals fuel.....
a quarter quart overfilled shouldn't hurt anything but with a turbo if you don't have a catch can you could easily be pushing oil out the tube and into the intake....then burning it....

A 1/4 Qt. extra of oil will do nothing to the car.
Black smoke is an indication of unburnt fuel. It's running too rich. Check your spark plugs and see which one is black. Could be a fouled plug. Caused by what I don't know. Could be a clogged injector. Dirty and or a bad spray pattern, or stuck open. Check the ignition system and the fuel system. Check your air filter.
Do you have any type of Engine Management on the car?

so i changed out the spark plugs. they were darker full of carbon. im talking darker than the darkest night. it smoked just a little im thinking the old stuff was burning out but i drove it around the block at wot and got no smoke i drove it back to my shop and let it idle for 5 min and no smoke. i do think that i have to get it re tuned since i just got the spark plugs about 8,000 miles ago. to much fuel. im currently running the interceptor x (microtech) engine management system. thanks everyone that had some input on my issue.

I had my car dyno tuned @ the dyno shop in santee,ca and i would not recommend them to anyone 1100 dollars later yes the car runs but not that great. i have spoken to a shop in long beach that does 3 rotors and rx8 and rx7 i hope to take my car their soon to have it re tuned.
