You can take your car through any car wash. The only wash my cars experience is a nice hand wash cause car washes scratch the paint like no tomorrow.

I've had no problems going through the local Mr. Wash. In fact, I'm headed there this afternoon to take advantage of a half-price coupon.

Peripheral ports are safer for the brushless car wash

if a storm has high winds or if a tornado passes through a plowed field or pasture it picks up high amounts of dirt. hence when it rains the rain drops contain high amounts to make it rain mud.

Yeh I take my 8 through a car wash all the time, followed by the hand-wax service. They've always done a great job and I've never noticed any scratches. The side ports did get some water in them one time though, but it seems to be running OK still.

I would be very mad if I washed my car and that happened.

What I meant by scratches was swirl marks. These are really fine scratches in the clear coat. If you have a black car then this is really noticable in the sun. For people like me who want to keep their car looking like it rolled off the show room floor then a nice handwash is the only way of keeping the paint looking good. The scratches in the clear coat can be fixed with a couple of good swirl removers and a good rotary or orbital buffer but can be an all day project.

You are assuming that you, and the OP, have enough talent to do a handwash without scratching the paint yourself. You have more of a chance of scratching your car by washing it by hand then you do of going through a touchless car wash.

I never said you wouldn't get stratches in the paint if you do a handwash. What I meant was if you do proper techniques and use the right gear for the job then you greatly reduce those scratches. I'm pretty crazy when it comes to cleaning cars and many think I should have my own detailing business. When it comes to washing my car I use a sheepskin wash pad and a bucket with grit guard. I do a full detail on my car twice a year. That means use of a high speed rotary buffer with three different pads for the job. I start with a wash of the car and fully dry the car. Then I claybar the car and wash again and fully dry. Then I use a severe swirl remover (if needed) with a pad with a deeper cut. Then I use a swirl remover with a pad with a deep cut/ medium cut. Then I apply a polish to the car with a pad with no cut. I then give the car a hand wax using a synthetic paste wax (they last a long time) and follow that up with a sealant to keep the car looking good for several months on end.

Everyone is gonna create scratches in the paint by just driving down the road but I know how to get rid of them and make your car look better than when it came off the showroom floor as long as your willing to put in the man hours and back aches into it.

Not normal for a stock 8. Do you have some kind of aftermarket intake?

It's never normal for any car to cut off at any odd rpm after a car wash. Is it still acting up?

It is completely normal for a car to cut off after sucking up water through it's intake. They did their best to try and protect the CAI from the water...but it does suck it up and it does kill an engine.

Would it kill the engine the first time it happens, or just over time? My first engine only lasted 90000kms. I was skeptical of the effect the car wash was having on the engine. Dealer said it was simply "water gettin in where it shouldn't, all good once it dries". FAAAKKKK! I just got the new engine put in 1000kms ago, that was the first time through the wash.. and the last.
